Boards For Bros Build Day in Honor of Matt Woods

Posted on Thursday, November 20, 2014 by Chris

There's a first time for everything... Year round we accept your donations of new and used skateboard parts, combined with monetary donations for our non-profit organization, Boards for Bros. In November, we normally get our staff together to assemble some 200+ skateboards for our annual gifting of skateboards to the local communities during the Holiday season. Over the past couple of years, there's been a huge demand from lurkers, locals, and SPoT family supporters that wanted to be more involved with our B4B build day. This led us to creating our 1st Annual Boards for Bros Build Day in honor of our fallen homie Matt Woods. We had free skating all day, a free BBQ and more skateboard parts than you could keep track of. By the end of the day, we had 209 complete boards (give or take a few), to give away next month. Check out the video recap and photos below of the Build Day. An extra thank you goes out to the Woods family for joining us for the first year of this event and helping put boards together.

All of this wouldn't be possible without contributions from Silver Trucks, Mini-Logo bearings and those who donate all year round. Your donations keep the gift of skateboarding going for kids all around the Tampa Bay area. We are very grateful for your contributions and know the kids are too.

Stay tuned in December for our recap of this year's passing out boards to kids around the city.

SPoT employee Josh Knight starts organizing all the decks so we can start building the boards for the 1st annual Boards For Bros Build Day in honor of Matt Woods.
We're all set up and ready to start building boards for the less fortunate!
Time to get started assembling completes. Even the King of Ybor, Allen Russell helped out this year.

Boards started piling up quick, thanks to the support of everyone that lent a hand.
A bunch of skating was going down too! That's Wesley Box with a front 50-50 on what he calls the "death rail."
Chuckie Wooder with a stylish backside smith grind on the bump to rail.
The press had a field day.
Jack Loktu with a boneless over the hip with Alejandro Burnell backing him up.
Marino Nicastro with a beanplant over the rail into the bank.
Laura Fong-Yee was killing the handrail. Frontside lipslide with ease.
Double crails! Jereme Knibbs frontside crail grabs over Alejandro Burnell's frontside crailslide to fakie.
That's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who came out to support and lend a hand and a special thank you to the Woods family for showing love. See you all next year!
