I had a feeling Go Skateboarding Day this year was gonna be a good one but it was also going to be a tough one; I’d guess it was around 100 degrees outside and not to mention, sunny. But I got some coffee from The Bricks next door with others and got ready for the day.
Eric McKenney, our announcer and leader of the day, brought along his new puppy. She kept her cool in the van most of the day while Eric was not so fortunate.
First thing on the agenda for the day was setting up some obstacles around the corner from SPoT Ybor and warming up. They say you can’t have a good team unless one person stands around and watches, thanks for taking care of that Josh.
Pat
DC was sponsoring the event and had shirts for everybody who showed up and prizes for tricks along the way. Not everybody was excited about skating just yet.
Josh and Pat, the leaders of SPoT Maintenance got a good doubles photo, as they were the ones who fixed this box up.
Treshan shows up fashionably late.
This guy came through hot with some weird wheelie thing. Here's Josh Knight getting caressed as he tries to ride it.
Josh Eckert, Bean Plant Pole Jam.
Ok, one good group photo and then we skate to Ghetto Gap. One...two...three...GO SKATEBOARDING DAY!!
Ooops we got pulled over. The cops couldn’t just let us have some fun.
After we got free from the cops we got to the gap and Eric was there supervising ready to give out cash for tricks.
Markus Jalaber had bad luck with boards at this gap, broke two of them and his wheel fell off. Nothing his friends couldn’t help him with.
Markus came through with this huge Varial Heel after a short but hard battle.
Who
Don't fake out or this might happen. You’ve got a long way to go, brace for impact.
James Cobb - BS Flip.
The crowd was going wild! James and Markus were shutting it down.
James - Full Cab. I repeat... Full Cab.
C.R.E.A.M.
Skating down 7th Ave, taking over the streets on skateboards. Next stop: Ghetto Banks.
Chris Reitz - BS Tail.
Jereme Knibbs - BS Ollie. You may have seen this in one of his parts.
Final stop of the day was SPoT. Josh's face matches how I bet the employees felt when we brought in 200+ kids to check in.
Outside Alex Buncy was killing the concrete course. Madonna to Tail.
Jimmy the Greek - FS Ollie.
Everyone was hyped on the free food...as you can tell by the line.
A look behind the grill of all the madness.
Alex Buncy has been living in Colorado for almost a year now and you can tell the mountains have hardened him. Boneless to Bean Plant Blunt Slide.
Who
Switch Krook for 3rd place. Who dat?
Uncle Sam killed the best trick down the set. Nose Grind Pop Over.
Our top 3.
One final product toss to close it out. Thanks DC and everyone who showed up. It was a great day.
