Bro Bowl 2.0 Grand Opening Photos

Posted on Thursday, April 21, 2016 by Chris

The rain threatened, but not even mother nature could keep us from officially opening the new Bro Bowl / Perry Harvey Sr. Skatepark in Downtown Tampa last weekend. It turned out to be a beautiful day of food, music, skateboarding and a coming together of our community to help memorialize a piece of history and add a new chapter to Tampa's story. Our own mayor, Bob Buckhorn even showed up to cut the ceremonial ribbon and nervously let SPoT's Derick Glancy ollie over him afterward (without incident). Check out some photos from the day's events and stay tuned for a full edit coming next week.

Perry Harvey, SR. Park aka Bro Bowl 2.0. This park has been open to the public for almost a month but April 16th was its official grand opening. Of course the Skatepark hosted it; we had vendors, places to eat and visit. The Mayor Bob Buckhorn even showed up to help cut the ribbon and welcome skateboarding.
A good look at the park from one side. They added a whole new street section for us new age guys but also revamped the Bro Bowl to keep all the locals happy.
Here's the bump section from the old bowl. Its pretty awesome they kept this around to preserve some of its history.
That's Kevin who owns and runs Look Back Library. He goes around the country building publicly accessible skate magazine libraries. He uses his doubles of mags to sell and make money off to continue his journey.
Here’s an inside look of the van and sleeping arrangements. He’s got in his hands a signed Mike V and a Lance Mountain + Rick Mc Crank magazine. Its not fun being broke or else I would buy every one he owns.
The Chicken Trap was out here and it's owned by Tampa local, Dave Cruz. They have amazing food, and you know it's going into good hands. They ran out of food by the end. Follow them on instagram @thechickentrap and see where they post up next in Tampa and don’t miss out!
Boards for Bros is always representing, making and giving boards out to the less fortunate. They had some games you could play once you donated some money where you could win some sick product.
Adam (never did get your last name) was straight ripping it in the bowl. Lien to Tail. I’m claiming he learned these in SPoT Skate Camp. Go check it out and maybe you can learn these too!
Michael Wiegner is at all of our events and that doesn’t just stop at the SPoT. Crailslide transfer for the win.
Chase Espinosa planting some beans on this mound of concrete. Good form but i don’t think anything is going to grow.
Eric McKenney battled this Nose Blunt for awhile but I think he could land them every try now. Practice makes perfect and, well, you’re pretty damn close!
That's what we came for! Brian Schaefer doesn’t just own SPoT or announce events, he also rips! BS Tailslide like it was ’93.
Paul Schmitt and Tito Porrata. If you don’t know who Professor Schmitt is, I feel bad for you. He’s a pioneer in skateboarding because he continues to get behind the science of it while creating the best skate decks in history. Tito is part of those guys known as Team Pain, building concrete skateparks around the country. Two guys responsible for this new skatepark in downtown and two legends!
Speaking of legends, BS always takes time out of his day to autograph a board. Brian is for the kids.
The Book Bus was out here giving out free books to the public to keep reading and learning alive. You guys still know what books are right?
Wesley Box holding on to that boardslide across and down. Photographer's nightmare, camo pants.
Sly
Sly Sullivan, Switch 180 5-0. You can catch Sly in the snackbar on the weekends when he’s not killing it, say what's up next time if you haven’t already.
Eric and Peanut, our executive volunteer. He’s in the making of taking all of our jobs.
Who's that in the middle? Bob Buckhorn, The Mayor of Tampa! And he backs skating, what could be better than that?
He also backs something else……... $75 tickets instead of jail time are where it's at.
It's time to get this thing started! Cut that ribbon.
Once the Mayor showed up, everyone's camera came out. It was all over the news if you didn’t catch it.
VIP Scissors for very important people.
Professor Schmitt had awards that were engraved with the original Bro Bowl to give out.
Derick Glancy making history, Ollieing over the mayor! Whats more American than that? Tampa Legend.
Uncle Sam FS Pinch with an American Flag in hand. That's the definition of freedom.
Ok, back to business. We held a small best trick contest on this fun obstacle.
Chris P. showing them how its done with at Ollie North.
Robby Kirkland did this Hardflip for the crowd. You can’t really win these events when you’re on the SPoT team.
Mante Cooper with what I thought was going to win: Boardslide up the Handrail.
Nick Cordano was the one who came through with the win. Nollie Tre down the stairs. I can picture it now…..only if I was paying attention.
Product toss for the kids. Making sure everyone has a SPoT sticker.
Now for our final event of the day, Best Boneless and Slide in the Bro Bowl.
Then Professor Schmitt tried setting the world record for the biggest group of people bombing the snake run. Take a wild guess what might’ve happened.
Thats right! Mayhem. Kids crashing into each other everywhere.
Carlos went for gold and came home with the win. Boneless the gap for the best boneless of the day!
Uncle Sam keeping things casual.
Brandon Starr was one of the only people interested in winning the best slide award. He sure did it, FS Lip to Fakie!
Carlos with his winnings, $20 for best Boneless.
Brandon Starr with his new Enjoi for best slide.
It was a great day, I hope you made it out!
