SPoT Free Fridays: January 2017

Posted on Monday, January 16, 2017 by Chris

The First Friday of the month means SPoT Free Fridays: Free skating, BBQ, a Best Trick contest, and a rad skate video from the past or present. We all got together for a session and some high fives a few weeks ago, and here's how it went down. Thanks to everyone who came out and we'll see you at the next one!

Your host with the most, Derick Glancy was on the injured list for a little bit, but as you can see, he's happy to be back.
Oh yea, Derick is also thankful for free beer courtesy of our friends at Tampa Bay Brewing Co.
Jay
If you don't already know, Jay is our Head of Maintenance here at SPoT and he's also pretty handy with a spatula.
Michael getting fueled up to skate before the Best Trick goes down.
Of course LJ and the Crusty Mayo Crew was in attendance, thanks for the support dudes!
Say hello to the ladies of Boards for Bros(and their dogs).
A session on the boxes outside always happens when we start serving food; maybe this is our way of waiting in line...
Enough warmup; Guest judge Alex Johnson announces the official start of the Best Trick contest.
Liam sitting comfortably on a Feeble to 50-50.
Nick Cordano - FS Blunt
Matt Savidakis - FS Feeble
Maycon was putting down moves left and right, I was just trying to keep up. He stomped a handful of these Heelflips over the rail.
This varial heel was textbook.
As you can see, going over the rail was a popular choice on this night. FSEC member Eric Mckenney floats a Switch Flip.
When Tiago put down this Varial Heel to 5-0, everyone watching went totally nuts. Wow dude!
The session moved to the big quarterpipe after the Best Trick, starting with Tayron's huge Wallride Backside Grab.
Tyler was flying all over the course with a big smile on his face the whole time. FS Air
Another high energy maneuver from Tyler - Invert
Okay enough messing around, lets pick some winners Derick!
And here are our winners! Tiago Cristian (right) took First Place with that amazing Varial Heel to 5-0 and Braden Stelma (left) in Second with his Kickflip Front Board Bigspin Out. Congratulations guys!
After the smoke cleared, we all grabbed a drink and sat down to watch Alien Workshop's "Mindfield" video. It was an extremely successful night of skating, chilling with old friends and making new ones. Thank you to everyone who came out, and see you at next month's Free Friday session!
