2017 Tampa Am - Converse Concrete Jam Photos

Posted on Monday, November 20, 2017 by Chris

Ever since we stopped doing the Moat Race at Tampa Am, a lot of people were looking for something to fill the void left in their souls - and I think the Converse Concrete Jam is it. You can't beat watching these dudes fly around, crashing into each other, with no regard for safety whatsoever. Kind of like the Moat Race! Maybe at Tampa Pro, we'll let people throw eggs at them while they shred. But for now, here's a batch of this year's cement chompers doing what they do best...and all in honor of 25 years of Skatepark of Tampa. Huge thanks to DJ Kevin Romar and The CHFRS for keeping the party lit, and to Converse, Monster and PBR for helping us put it all together.

Photos and words: Bart Jones & Josh Bowser
Safe to say a few people showed up.
A lot of these people were in the way.
This is what a crappy photo looks like when one flash doesn’t go off and dudes are standing in front of the other one.
The Tale of a Crail, Fernando Bramsmark.
If anyone remembers the CCJ from earlier this year @ Pro, it looks like history is about to repeat itself w/ the bearded dude getting landed on...see here. Where’s his camera? Looks like he’s trying to film Steven Pineiro’s Bluntslide with his mouth.
Meanwhile, in the Transitions venue, DJ Romar had the music bumpin', getting the crowd hyped. Thanks for bringing the energy Kevin!
Ybor Heads everywhere...
Yoda warms up while Wayne dries the flatground.
While DJ Wade runs the DJ booth on Booger Sugar, this dude keeps it pure with a Sugarcane over the doorway.
On the deck Yoda does a magic trick and Abracadabra Poof!! A Frontside Air of Jake Wooten appears!
Yes of course, way more complicated maneuvers went down over the doorway, but a clean BSTS is timeless.
The Tampa Tuesday squad in effect!
The Bricks was pouring FREE PBR's and Well Drinks all night, and the crowd was appreciative as you can see here. Thanks to PBR and Monster for the suds.
Pro Tips with Cody Chapman: Eyes up to dodge fallen soldiers
Souta Tomikawa clears the wall with a footplant.
Whereas Cedric’s grip just says “F**k” mine says ‘F**k, I wish I could Backside Air like Cedric”
Luiz Mariano emulates the smell of beer in the air with a Stale.
Tyson Zane - Backside Ollie
Makoto Nishikawa - Invert
Chuckie playing catch up with Cody Chapman. I still can't believe these dudes rolled away from this.
This is usually the night when Tampa Am employees get to cut loose for a little bit. Enjoy it fellas, you deserve it!
Jake Wooten always beatin’ em to the punch.
This poor kid got javelined in the head with a board, so we hooked him up with some free swag. I don’t think that's gonna help the bump on his head, but at least maybe it'll cheer him up a bit.
Gerwer wasn’t here this year for the Concrete Jam so Fernando did his part and put some Nose down.
Steven ducks for cover while Cedric blasts a Finger-Flip Lien Tail.
Derick & Dakota spreading some FL love!
Dakota Hunt - Backside Floater over the Door Gap.
Jake Wooten looks for deeper meaning within the name of the trick and strikes a pose.
Before everyone was even done skating the crowd mobbed the course and demanded free gear and wouldn’t leave until demands were met..wasn’t much else we could do as they had us way out numbered.
I don’t think Souta knows whats going on here.
But then realizes.. He got 5th place!!..and some cash!! Yea Souta!!!
Fernando Bramsmark - Frontside Noseblunt after time. Darkness is a fucking beast!
Concrete 100! The envelope and bills say it all... Makoto excepts 4th place with much enthusiasm.
Luiz Mariano just earned another payment for his braces with 3rd Place!! I guess Manny spent his money on other stuff.
The Pabich brothers are a force to be reckoned with! Roman takes the reigns on this one bringing home 2nd place.
He’s from the south, but skates like he’s from mars..dead giveaway; Jake Wooten takes 1st! Congrats Jake!!!!
Story be told Fernando is a straight savage! As the contest ended he was on the brink of landing this Noseblunt Slide when every one stormed the concrete for the toss. He waited for everyone to leave, cleaned the garbage up, when it started raining, and still was going for the trick all while his friend Jacopo was nice enough to try to dry the crete’ between tries. Sure enough within a few tries through patience and perseverance he got it!! Fernando, you the real MVP!!!
After the Concrete Jam, CHFRS took the stage and kept the high energy flowing. You guys killed the show!
