So last week’s Game Time edition of Zaturdays was such a hit that it crashed our servers for 2 hours during the crucial holiday sales rush. But it was worth losing all of that revenue to witness your Zaturdays stoke. As promised, here are the much-anticipated answers to the game. And a huge shout out to Ian Craig in St. Louis, Operator at Key Impact Sales &Systems, Inc., who out of the hundreds (thousands even!) of Zaturdays players was the only one to get all 26 correct. When our funding for Zaturdays Magazine comes through I’ll be calling you for that interview Ian, so be ready. 1. Kevin Long: Q. That’s a picture of Spanky, a character from the Our Gang / Little Rascals show from the 1920s and 1930s, and I’m assuming the character that inspired Kevin’s nickname?
2. Bobby Puleo: U. If you know one thing about East Coast skateboarding it would be that Ricky Oyola is the godfather. If you know two things it would be that Puleo made a career of skating cellar doors.
3. Theotis Beasley: F. No secret here, Theotis is the nicest dude in skateboarding and is all smiles, all the time.
4. Rodney Mullen. H. Rodney Mullen is a straight G. In this case G is for Genius.
5. Alphonzo Rawls: M. Not only could Alphonzo do a mean smith grind, he is the creator of Everybody Skates, the brand that puts your favorite celebrities on skateboards.
6. Darren Navarrette: X. This is a screengrab of the 1994 hit movie Interview with the Vampire starring Tom Cruz and Brad Pitt. If skateboarding would have been a part of the action you can bet the Vertical Vampire Darren Navarrette would have stolen the show.
7. Stevie Williams: D. The dude is nothing if not blingin.’
8. John Fitzgerald: I. No disrespect but John Fitz is the Andre the Giant of skateboarding.
9. Aaron Hamoki: T. The only pro skateboarder I can think of who can play a Jew’s harp, aka jaw harp (fitting right?). Bratrud even gave him one as a graphic.
10. Tom Penny: N. If you aren’t following @cultoftom on Insta, take a look at a few posts and recognize that Tom Penny is a magician.
11. Ray Barbee: B. Ray’s first pro graphic was produced by Powell Peralta in 1989 and featured a ragdoll playing with a deck of cards. If you got this one right it’s because you’re old or you name is Ian Craig.
12. Richie Jackson: G. If pirates were skateboarders they’d all be Richie Jackson.
13. Lizzie Armanto: R. The most low key famous couple in skateboarding, Lizzie Armanto and Axel Crusher. Are they still a thing?
14. Ricky Oyola: Z. Even Ricky Oyola’s biggest fans might not know he was at one time known as Z Roller Ricky.
15. Joey Brezinski: V. Joey is famous for riding on two wheels and eating burritos, two of the stranger claims to fame but it seems to work for him.
16. Evan Smith: A. This is the infinity sign, and most closely captures the essence of the mind of Evan Smith. He’s on another plane that just goes.
17. Tony Hawk: L. The one-footed lien to tail, aka the Madonna, didn’t invent itself, Tony Hawk did, and he named it after the biggest pop start of the time. Papa don’t preach!
18. Brandon Biebel: O. One of the few skaters that can lift 1000 pounds right over his head.
19. Matt Bennett: W. This is the cover of a New Order album, and no skater on earth likes the genre of music more than the dude who brought us the Bennett grind.
20. Erick Winkowski: E. I don’t know why, but he’s @8ballr on Instagram.
21. Erik Ellington: K. This one is a little bit obscure, but back in the day when Erik rode for Zero he was known as The Mule because he didn’t have quite the enthusiasm as Chief and the rest of the big jumpers on the crew. “The tricks are on the top of the hill,” Jamie would tell him, and eventually Erik would drag himself up there (or get pushed up) and get them.
22. Yuto Horigome: C. Whatever, Yuto is Japanese and this is the symbol for the Japanese Yen. Seems fitting.
23. Diego Bucchieri: J. Diego was known as The Butcher for two reasons. His name sounded like Butcher, and his hands looked like meat cleavers when he skated. Oh, and he was from Argentina where they eat meat three meals a day. So three reasons. Chop chop.
24. Rob Welsh: P. In 1992, Wu Tang Rob Welsh, aka Wu Welsh, wore Wu Wear full time, even Wu jammies presumably.
25. Bam Margera: S. This is a photo of that band Him that Bam was obsessed with.
26. Brandon Westgate: Y. If you’ve ever read one interview with Brandon Westgate you discovered two things: Brandon comes from a family of cranberry farmers. And reading interviews about farming cranberries might be the most boring thing of all time.
