Over the weekend, we did another Boards for Bros distribution in the local neighborhoods around SPoT. All year long, we collect used skate parts from everyone in the Shop. Several times per year, we all get together and form an assembly line to put the boards together. We piled them into Clem's truck and drove around town to give them out.

When I first got to Detroit and saw the miles and miles of run down neighborhoods and abandoned buildings, I was amazed that it reminded me of parts of Cuba I visited. How can this happen in America? I learned a lot walking through these neighborhoods and talking to some residents. I know everyone says skateboarding is the best thing ever, but after learning about this scene in Detroit and what skateboarders are doing there, you really understand that this skateboard thing and the culture of it is truly something special. Here are some photos and words...

Our friend Andreas works with kids in an outreach program and told us about a gathering he was having in Robles Park last Saturday with some kids from the area. We figured it was a good time to unload a bunch of Boards for Bros completes at once.

Filmer Joe has a brother in the military who is stationed in Afghanistan. He had a box full of Boards for Bros donations shipped to his base to do a distribution for us. Maybe one day we will be doing Damn Am Afghan and distributing more Boards for Bros with him.

Boards for Bros is our charity at Skatepark of Tampa. All year long, we collect used parts in the Shop. At the end of the year, we gather some friends and put everything together into as many usable skateboards as we can. Then we go through the rough neighborhoods of Tampa and give out hundreds of boards to kids. Last night we had a two hours session of putting the first 100 boards together for our giveaway trip this Saturday.
