Tampa Pro 2012 Behind the Scenes and at the Bars

Warning for kids: There are a lot of words that they don't put in the dictionary in this video. Ask ma and pops if you can watch. So much went down during Tampa Pro from Thursday to Sunday, it's hard to shrink it down to a single edit. I had my phone out and was filming the whole time as usual. In this edition of Rob Meronek's Cell Phone Edits, we have:
  • The TM and Industry VIP Contest.
  • The empty Tampa Am Vert Contest.
  • Chris Haslam working on some old car.
  • The People's Temple and Black Lips.
  • A little bit of the bid'niss and production meetings and how damn fun it is to work at SPoT.
  • Brian Schaefer giving SPoT tats.
  • A search to bust some ticket scalpers who sold fake tickets for $100.
  • A bit of webcast rehersal.
  • DJ Wade's performance.
  • Mike V's first of three battles with the wall including the clip that Rob Dyrdek tweeted about.
  • Weezy trying to throw greetings to the judges while they're working. They ignore him because this job is serious.
  • Body discussing how we are all Ryan Sheckler fans.
  • Tunechi's impromptu demo in the back.
  • The Moat Race as seen from our offices.
  • Harmony Korine hanging out.
  • Weezy feeling Odd Future and Waka Flocka.
  • Sean Malto's amazing nose manny to nosegrind and how he made it up last minute.
  • An interview with the receiver of crazy tats.
  • Mike Vallely getting lifted.
  • A bit of the Awards.
  • Head judge Jason Rothmeyer's report on the Slap Messageboard sentiment after the results were announced.
  • Shout out to the Maintenance Department crew.
  • Drunk antics at the Arnette After-Party.
  • Ryan Sheckler getting girl mobbed in the streets of Ybor.
  • Jack Moran trying to get a kiss.
  • B-list actresses who can't get their lines right.
  • Fred Gall getting DFL in the Contest and on the dance floor.
  • Our early morning meeting on Monday to figure out how we can make Tampa Pro even better next year.
  • And more! Wow, what a weekend. Thanks to everyone that was a part of Tampa Pro and helped us do what we love doing.
  • I still can't believe you can film, edit, add titles, and all that 100% on your phone these days. Technology has progressed as much as skateboarding. This entire thing was made on iMovie for iPhone.

Thursday at Tampa Pro: Welcome Everyone

I spent the entire day up front doing registration and serving up a lot of high fives and handshakes, but I did manage to break out every now and then shoot some photos here and there. I can't wait for this weekend to be in full swing. I'm ready to work hard and lurk hard: Thursday at Tampa Pro. I also have a couple minutes of video from my day. Yep, another episode of "Rob Meronek's Cell Phone Edits." This one is behind the scenes and preparation this week:

Trailer for That One Dude's Cell Phone Edits

I'm taking this whole cell phone edit thing way too far like all the other jokes I come up with to entertain myself. I just tested out the new iMovie for iPhone today and made this trailer for all my summer blockbusters coming out. Oh, and I started a new production company, PenisaurusRex Productions. Make room, Hollywood. I'm cumming at you. Rawr! On a technical note, it's amazing that this can be 100% made on a cell phone. Damn

Meronek's Cell Phone Edit at The Berrics

Here's another one from my cell phone. This time, I'm getting all legit now with Schaefer intros. Today was the first ever Best Trick Contest at The Berrics. SPoT Productions donated our services to help organize and run things. The legit video from HiDefJoe will be at skateparkoftampa.com/SPoTLife soon.

Mike Mo Capaldi and Tony Hawk's House

When we landed at LAX, it was 1am our time. It was a two hour drive to Mike Mo's house where we arrived and went straight to the local bar in his little hometown of Simi Valley, The Arena. What a scene. After shutting that down and then having heavy metal parking lot lurk for yet another hour out front, Schaefer, HiDefJoe, and I were up for well over 24 hours still trying to hold it down. After a few hours of sleep camping out in Mike Mo's living room, we woke them up, headed to the Girl/Chocolate facility, then on to Tony Hawk's house two hours away. In less than 24 hours, so much went down. Here's the view as seen and edited on my iPhone: Mike Mo Capaldi and Tony Hawk's House. HiDefJoe will have the legit version of this as a SPoT Life episode out soon at skateparkoftampa.com/SPoTLife

Tampa Am Seen Through My Phone

I just sifted through a ton of video in my phone from Tampa Am weekend and edited it down to this few minutes using iMovie for iPhone. A little bit of skating, a little bit of partying, a little bit of behind the scenes, and a lot of hard work with late nights and early mornings make up my weekend at Tampa Am. I do a few different jobs from taking photos, manging our digital content, making sure our software and site don't fold under all that traffic, and managing the judging and scoring, plus a bunch of little things in between. Thanks to everyone who comes to be a part of what we love doing every year.

Gangster Ass Stencil

We use stencils to tag up everything from ramps to random stuff at skateboard contests and events we're at. Of course, cardboard and all that gets destroyed and we have to keep re-making them. Ryan Clements has an engineering friend who makes all kinds of stuff out of steel so he had this one specially made. Using the SPoT logo, they laser cut some steel into a portable travel stencil that we can use to forever leave our mark. Plus, it has a ninja weapon that can kill you. '93 'till infinity, suckas.

7th Avenue Guavaween Crazy Preacher in Ybor City

Ryan Clements always goes all out on his Halloween costumes. This year, he gets the Oscar for acting like a crazy Ybor City preacher. Some people get right away that it's a joke and others just can't seem to get past their anger. His Rebel flag belt buckle isn't helping matters. Check out a small sample of the amazing characters we encounter on 7th Avenue during Guavaween, including a near fight with a roofer kid bragging about his GPA. I shot this on an iPhone 4S and edited in Premiere.

Power's Out, Vert Baby Dance Party, and Gambling Antics

Sure, the skateboarding was great, but you'll only get a small dose of that in my chill time videos I make with my phone. The power went out in the middle of the Contest at Woodward, so we packed it up and headed over to dinner and an extra weird bar in the next town over. Actually, it wasn't weird to us. It was very Florida. The rest of the weekend was a lot of dice rolling and Halloween dressed up as DJ Wade: Damn Am at Woodward: Power's Out, Vert Baby Dance Party, and Gambling Antics.

Arrival at Woodward: Old Guy MegaRamp Contest, SPoTlight Staff Session

We arrived at Woodward yesterday after a two hour drive from LAX. It's in the middle of nowhere, but it has everything you could imagine you want to skateboard on. Plus, there's that human cannonball launcher thing. We had our own special contest on it. Here's our first day trimmed down to four minutes of footage from my iPhone: Arrival at Woodward: Old Guy MegaRamp Contest, SPoTlight Staff Session. This one was filmed and edited on the new 4S with 1080p. The camera improvements they made are great. This four minutes of video uses about 800mb of space.
