The Deluxe Build Project - Tampa

Posted on Sunday, May 15, 2016 by Chris

The Build Project is a worldwide fundraising effort that included 250+ skate shops and local crews to help raise money to build/fix DIY skate spots in their areas. It is the brainchild of the brands behind Deluxe Distribution out of San Francisco, CA (Spitfire, Anti Hero, Thunder Trucks, Real and Krooked). It all began in July 2015 and is still continuing to grow and prosper with the support of skaters everywhere, and we were fortunate enough to be a part of the program. It was decided that we would spruce up a classic Tampa spot, the turtle ditch. We formed some ledges, sunk a rail into the banks, called the concrete truck, and let her rip. Unfortunately after our mission, someone(s) got upset with us and decided to destroy all of our hard work. Well, that would never stop us. We geared up and came back with all of our materials for build number two. After reshaping and smoothing everything out, we camped out until the whole thing was set and dry. The next day we came back, cleaned up, and got our session. Satisfaction! Thanks again to Deluxe for their dedication to skateboarding.

The bump on the left is where the ditch got its name.
This is not Chris Cantwell's first DIY build.
Eric knocking out those talking points first take.
The Flat bar did not survive.
Gloomy day to be pouring crete.
We found out via insta the ledges were destroyed.
Ledges were still a bit skateable.
Who would do this?
Busted...
Build Project: round 2.
Lots of bonding agent for the repair.
Here we go...
Josh Knight joined the build team.
Looking good.
Chris Reitz was ready to skate this thing so he was delivering the concrete as fast as he could.
Aaron was ready to camp out with his surveillance camera.
Hopefully this thing lasts.
Thanks to everyone that donated, our volunteers, and Deluxe! Go shred it and tag us in your photos @SPoTTampa.
