Cmon' With The Get Down

Tim O'Connor is one of skateboarding's more honest individuals. Tim's brutal honesty makes anything he says worth reading. In this case, it's his new Chromeball interview that covers a variety of topics. It goes all the way back to his first sponsor-me tape, to the current news of Rob Dyrdek buying Alien Workshop. There's also all the funny stuff in between, like breaking down Fred Gall's three careers within a career, or the story behind his Epicly Later'd where he wrecks an entire Thrasher. Tim also explains the invention of his Scoliosis grind. The whole thing ends with Tim sharing some wise words for the new kids starting out. With all that being said, you should just go read the whole thing now.

Traveling cross country in a van with just a skateboard and your friends should be a rite of passage for all skaters. Brad Cromer, Jake Donnelly, and a crew of others made the trek. They also documented the whole trip, turning it into a full video. Five weeks, 10 guys, one van, 3700 miles, and one crazy accident to end it all.

Alex Bowers is back here with me slangin' inventory in Innetech and stitching words together on the keyboard to give you glorious descriptions of some of the new product he's setting up for the Shop. Here are a few recent samples.

Foot Fetish: Introducing Wit-E Beats

Ever since I started skating 20+ years ago, it's always been three main interests for me: skateboarding, hip hop, and shoes. Skateboarding has alway been the strongest for me, of course. Lots of friends have the same mix different in different strengths. SPoT homie Wit E Beats is strong on shoes, so every now and then, he's going to take you in for a closer look at new footwear here at SPoT. Here's his first post:

New from Nike SB this month comes a Dunk Low in pine green and black with atom red accents. This Dunk is reminiscent of the Deftone Dunk Highs from 2003. The colorway is pretty similar, but the materials are very different. This sneaker uses a nappy suede resembling the suede on the Tauntaun Dunks, and the black parts of the shoe and the pine green leather underneath has a wood grain texture to it. I really like the heel padding that Nike is now using inside the Dunk Lows...it makes them much more comfortable. These come with black laces for a more subtle look and an extra pair of red laces to match the red accents on the tongue and heel tags which make them pop and gives a Gucci vibe. There is white stitching on the swoosh and heel panels that seems out of place, but doesn't distract much from the overall aesthetic of the sneaker. This pair is available now at SPoT Skate Shop Ybor for $98.

Josh Stewart dug up some old contest footage of an eclectic group of skaters. There's Wade Speyer and John Cardiel shredding the old outdoor mini-ramp. Eric Koston and Andy Roy hold it down on the street course. While Rune Glifberg does one of the best vert lines I've ever seen.

Clash of the Crews Jams/Teams So Far

Lifted Research Session

The LRG team got rounded up together at an amazing skate plaza. LRG has one of the most unique teams in skateboarding, with hesh to fresh, and young to old. It's cool watching Felipe Gustavo skate right next to Tommy Sandoval. Or the new kids, Tom Asta and Carlos Ribeiro, killing it alongside OG's like Chico Brenes and Rob G.

Throwback Tuesdays

Zered Basset's part in Vicious Cycle is one of the rawest parts to come out of the northeast. Clocking in at right over eight minutes, it's full of gnarly tricks done at gnarlier spots. There's moments where Zered just rifles off five tricks all at one spot, just shutting it down. The switch skills in this part are at their peak. Even the kid who posted this on YouTube had to add Zered's stance in the description of the video. I'm assuming it's because kids were probably so confused when this came out. Just watch below, it's basically one long hammer of a video part.
