Kyle, Killing It Since Day One

Way back in 2007 was when we first met Kyle Walker at Damn Am Costa Mesa, his first one. He turned heads and made it to the Finals there and has been killing it ever since. For the next few years, we saw him with his supportive parents everywhere from the Tranquility rail to Kyle coming back to win Damn Am Costa Mesa in 2010 and again the following year in Woodward. Now he drops this amazing part and like 120+ of today's top pros that have skated Damn Am, he's on the path to his name on a board. It's pretty amazing to see it coming full circle for yet another skater we've seen grow through Damn Am and Tampa Am. Check out Kyle's full part, "In Color". Don't stop at the credits because that's where it keeps getting better. Thanks Kyle and everyone we know for always being a part of our events so we can see you skate in person as well as getting it done in the streets with video parts.

Nerdsday Thursday: Numbers Show Everyone Quitting Skateboarding

This week on Nerdsday Thursday, I started with doing an analysis of our top 200 skaters over the years. Of course, the first question is regarding their ages. Then, I dug deeper to see who out of those 200 top skaters from 2006 is still a skater. The numbers are pretty damn alarming. I don't want to believe it. It seems like everyone is quitting skateboarding. You guys need to stop that quitting $h!t right now. You know what this reminds me of? Those grumpy old men that say they want skateboarding to die again because they love it so much. You just wish you were cool again, geezer. How could you not want something as amazing as skateboarding done by every new kid you meet? Try evolving and growing instead of longing for your heyday. Okay, that's the end of my rant, but still skateboarders are quitting like mad and that sucks. Check the numbers: Numbers Show Everyone Quitting Skateboarding.

Damn Am Los Angeles in Two Weeks

Throwback Tuesdays

E.S.T. used to be sort of an East Coast 411 for awhile. In one of the earlier issues it featured this Philadelphia montage. There's tons of ripping in this edit, but the most notable is Stevie Williams and Josh Kalis. Stevie opens it up with his signature pop, while Kalis closes it out with one of the best 360 flips of all time. Enjoy.

Vans Pool Party

Three Things About Clive

SPoT team rider Clive Dixon has the opener in the Ambig video that's on the Thrasher site right now. Clive is out there getting it done with the Fully Torqued crew and has a Kickstarter set up with Clint Walker to fund a tour. You should throw down and back what they're doing so we can see of course ripping skating, but also amazing things like the slip and slide loop. Schaefer's proud of that one for sure.

I can't believe how lucky I am to be around all this stuff as an aging skateboarder. A Rodney Mullen Chat and Getting Cool-Guyed by a 70 Year Old

I was at the IASC Hall of Fame Awards last night and it was an amazing presence of skateboarders spanning like 50 years. Before the show started, we were wondering who this crazy Crocodile Dundee looking character is. Turns out he's a 70 year old skateboarder who was getting an award tonight. Thanks IASC for letting us in on your awards shindig. I ripped some raw footage out of HiDefJoe's camera and put together a few minutes from the show: Rodney Mullen, Woody Woodward, and Dave Duncan at the IASC Hall of Fame Awards 2013.

On Friday, May 17, Andrew Reynolds will be at SPoT. We'll have skating, BBQ, and beers for those of age. Beer starts at 6pm, grill starts at 7pm. Andrew is here because his hometown of Lakeland has the Lakeland Skatepark Grand Opening the following day. Our friends at Team Pain built it tight. See you here at SPoT on Friday night and then at Lakeland's new park the following day.
