I just finished the first novel I’ve ever come across that was written by a skateboarder (and an epic one at that)! #TheGoodFool, by @Evanschiefelbine, is a story about a professional skateboarder as he travels to New York City and San Francisco. Evan did a great job with this novel, which I am going to half jokingly call “Skate Noir,” and I recommend this for anyone out there, whether you’re a skateboarder or not, as it is much more than a story about skateboarding! The book is available at finer skate shops, like @kingswell_losfeliz where I found it, or online at http://www.thegoodfool.com In the meantime, make sure to go onto youtube and watch Evan’s part in Blind’s What If. So good! #EvanSchiefelbine #skatenoir #skatefiction @thegoodfool
This is @andrewcole_scrapartist the man behind the recycled wine barrel cruiser boards : @napavalleystaveboard. Very soon we will be selling a limited run of these hand made wine barrel cruiser boards aka the #staveboard ➡️ @oldfriends__ I had a nice but short visit in Napa this week. There's no better time to be there than when the mustard is blooming. If you're in Northern California make sure to take a drive through the valley this weekend. You won't be disappointed! #NapaValley #mustard
I just finished #SoYouveBeenPubliclyShamed by #JonRonson and I loved it! This book is about how and why certain individuals are publicly shamed in this day and age, particularly through social media and the internet. It’s interesting to see how we as a society decide to absolutely destroy certain people through social media and this book examines the stories of a few people who have said or posted the wrong thing and paid for it heavily. This book also covers how public shaming has changed over time and how people who have been shamed recover. This book, along with #ThePsychopathTest, are really fun reads and I highly recommend them.
I want to give a huge congrats to my brother @miles_silvas for winning rookie of the year at the @transworldskate awards last night. So well deserved! Here are a few clips I filmed of Miles from about 5 years ago when he was still just an unknown grom who we all knew was destined for greatness. Let’s go skate again soon brother!! Congratulations!!
I am so psyched to now have @oldfriends__ available in @kingswell_losfeliz in Los Angeles. With this drop we are completely sold out of hats with only a few beanies left! If you're interested, please check our website for a listing of the skate shops now carrying our goodies. Thank you everyone for the unbelievable amount of support! I'm so excited to continue with this little project I'm doing with my good friend Chris Collins from Napa. Keep a look out for a bunch of rad stuff coming later this year. www.oldfriendsandco.com
Here are my top 5 Bowie-related Video parts: 1.Arto Saari : Sorry : “1984” AND “Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide” 2.Bryan Herman : Baker 3 : “The Width of a Circle” 3.Marc Johnson : Pretty Sweet : “Five Years” 4.Chocolate Montage : Yeah Right : “Fame” 5.Bill Pepper : Third Eye View : “Under Pressure” (Also really well used in The End) My entire appreciation for David Bowie was born from watching skate videos. I just counted on www.skatevideosite.com and there over 50 different #DavidBowie songs used in skate videos. Including repeated songs and questionable “parts,” I counted 85 Bowie songs used in skate videos or online clips. That’s incredible! Are there any other artists/bands who have made such an impact on skateboarding? Arto Saari’s double Bowie song mega part will forever be what I think of when I think of David Bowie, even though there were many parts and Bowie moments in my life that came before it. RIP to one of the most diverse and truly eccentric artists of the 20th century. @artofoto @bherman @marcjohnson @chocolateskateboards #BillPepper
