Maloof Money Cup Contest Format and Judging Details

It was a long hectic day of behind the scenes work for the Contest involving finalizing how we're making the format as simple and easy to understand as possible, meeting with Fuel TV guys, making sure our planning over the last few months actually makes sense now that we've seen the real course, and other general admin bid'niss type stuff. On top of all that, a few skaters checked in today, where I make sure sponsors and other info are correct and shoot a headshot photo for the site. Tomorrow during practice all day, there will be a ton more. It's nearly midnight and the workday is still not over. It's all worth it to witness some damn good skating this weekend. Not to mention sneaking in a session on the course before leaving.

So, how do you get 48 pros skating an entire street plaza in an organized fashion in a limited amount of time so you can have a ripping skateboard shindig? There are many things to consider and many people to please, including a limited time live TV segment of just two hours for Fuel TV. Here's how we decided it will go. The basic format for the Pro Contest on Saturday for Maloof Money Cup is below. The Am Contest on Sunday morning will run the same way.
  • 48 skaters, 8 jams, 6 skaters per jam, 6 minutes per section
  • The course is divided into 3 sections
  • Judging format: see diagrams for details
  • Top 12 overall make the cut to the Finals on Sunday
  • Each section’s score is all obstacles combined for that section
  • Final score is an average of all 3 sections
  • All scores based on judges’ overall impression (not a single best trick type contest)
Check out the diagram of the course and sections to help explain it further.
