ABDIAS RIVERA PROFILE
Abdias just turned 16 and has been a local at the Skatepark for about four years. We've watched him go from just another kid who got a skateboard for Christmas to someone who's killing it on all terrains.

Abdias and I recently spent a month together on the Damn Am Tour (www.DamnAm.com). Since the tour, I've concluded the following points about him (other than his skating being super good):
  1. Abdias is one of those quiet types who gets rowdy under the right circumstances. I've seen firsthand where he's been smacked by a chick and nearly squashed by her boyfriend because he poked her in the nipple while she was flashing us at the Warped Tour. If you're one of the many who saw it, be sure to thank him for that quality entertainment.
  2. He's a "low talker." What? Exactly.
  3. Next time you see him, ask him about all the Asian jokes he knows - he uses them on me every day.
  4. Other details about Abdias:
    • Who are your sponsors? Skatepark of Tampa, Anti-Hero, Spitfire, Dragon, DVS, and Droors.
    • How long have you been skating? 4.5 years.
    • Where are you from? Tampa, FL. Wrong answer. This is for Mondo Rad - I meant, what's your nationality? Puerto Rican.
    • What are you going to be doing a year from now? Skateboarding.
    • What are you going to be doing five years from now? Same thing, maybe move to California. Who knows?

WHAT'S HAPPENING OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS
By the time you read this, our Annual Back To School Bash & Bowl Contest on August 24th will be over. On your next skate break, nerd out and go to www.SkateparkOfTampa.com to read about it. Sometimes people post comments in Spanish, so it's kind of, well, Mundo Rad! Other than that, the next scheduled big event is Tampa Am 2003. It's the same weekend as our Ten Year Anniversary Party. No more cars in the moat and one-mile walks because this year the Party will be at Masquerade in Ybor City. Sometimes that was half the fun though. Anyway, besides checking out the Am Contest the weekend of January 17 - 19, 2003, make sure to get down to see what we have planned at Masquerade, Saturday night, the 18th.

The older you get the longer it takes to recover from weekends like Tampa Am. Once you get back on point, the Tampa Pro 2003 will just be getting started on Thursday, March 13th (practice) and going on until Sunday, March 16th. There are no organized parties at this time, but for the entire week before the weekend of the event, it's a guaranteed fun time in Ybor City. It seems that every bar you go into has a group of pro skateboarders taking over the place. Get more information about the event as it gets closer at www.SkateparkOfTampa.com.
