"I been thugged out since I was a Cub Scout.
Hoppin off my BMX, punchin niggas in the mouth"

Nigel Sylvester is breaking the mold with his upcoming "SOMP" Dunk collaboration with Nike SB. As a BMX rider, it is definitely not the norm to get the chance to design a sneaker for the skateboarding division of Nike. However, Nigel is a Nike sponsored athlete, and when given the chance he came out with guns blazing. The main thing that stands out on the design is the black upper which is made of Bespoke quality nubuck that has never been used on an SB release. This is a level of cool you will never truly appreciate until you hold them in your hand. Once again, Nike has impressed me with the use of this exceptionally soft material. This sh*t is like cuddling up with your girl and watching The Notebook soft. So soft that you will have to continuously fight the urge to caress them as if they were Jen Selter's booty. Safari print accents around the ankle collar and lace eyelets offer a touch of flavor while still maintaining a subdued look of freshness. The Swoosh, tongue tag, and heel tab are all metallic silver and bring together a colorway that has me on the verge of copping a vintage Raiders jacket to rock with them. The black insoles have Nigel's signature in silver on the right and S.O.M.P. (Standing On My Pedals) in silver on the left. the tongue is black nylon and a white midsole and gum bottom finish off the look. I would have liked to see silver laces as one of the options, but for some strange reason 2 sets of black laces are what we get. These are a hyperstrike, so if you want a pair it's time to call in favors or put in some work. As a longtime fan of the Nike SB line, I am glad to see the return of top notch materials that have been used on the last few releases. From the buttery suede used on the Year Of The Horse Dunk, to the heavyweight military-grade camo chosen by Benny Gold for the 510 Dunk, we have been blessed with solid Dunks for the start of 2014. Nike seems to be pushing collaborations hard this year for the SB line and I am hoping to see another SPoT sneaker in the works and have a hand in designing it. Let's make it happen Brian.

The SOMP Dunk high goes on sale this Saturday March 8th at noon inside SPoT Ybor at a price of $120 in sizes 7-13. Hitting the online store at 8:00am EST, in limited quantities.
