Last Saturday, the SPoT team, myself, and our local Jitts loaded up the van and headed to Lakeland Skatepark for the first stop of the Grind For Life Series. The van held Eric McKenney, Marino, Derick Wynn, Justin Zaragoza, Alejandro Burnell, Uncle Sam, Robbie Kirkland, and James Cobb. We started our day a little later than expected because certain people woke up late, but I’m a nice guy so I’ll leave them unnamed. When we had arrived, there was a variety of things going on besides the contest; free haircuts, and a GFL tent hosting giveaways & raffles. Everyone quickly hit the park and got warmed up before the sponsored division started. Alejandro, Robbie, Eric, Derick, James and Uncle Sam skated the division. Tampa locals and SHAQUEEFA members Scotty "The Body” Conley and Chris Jata were on the mic emceeing the event and, needless to say, they put on quite a show and kept it entertaining for everyone. Too many people killed their heats to name, but in the end Skatepark of Tampa’s very own Uncle Sam took home the gold! Thanks to everyone who came out. Especially all of those who came and showed support for those in need of cancer treatment.
The scene out front. There were people crowding the tents all day long.
The gang anxiously unloaded the van and headed inside.
Eric Mckenney starting things off with a FS Ollie on the brick bank.
Alejandro Burnell - BS Smith Pop Out.
Derick Wynn Front Shuv with a backwards board.
Alejandro stuck this Boneless in his run.
Pee Wee Kirks gets ready to take his run while everyone congratulates Alejandro.
James threw a Switch Bigspin down the stairs in his heat.
Uncle Sam - Railhop Firecracker. He’s a master of the crazy tricks.
And here he is with a FS Feeble, first try!
...after all that, you can see how he got First Place. Congrats Sam! And that's it for this one. Check us out on the next trip and don't forget to go donate and buy something rad at GrindForLife.org
