Happy Birthday America, From SPoT

Posted on Friday, July 3, 2015 by Chris

The 4th of July is a holiday commemorating when congress adopted the declaration of independence which granted us freedom from Great Britain. Not sure where all of this "lets get drunk and blow shit up" mumbo-jumbo came from, but I'm not complaining. Freedom is defined as the quality or state of being free with the absence of restraint. Now I know what your thinking, "WTF, Pat? What does all of this have to do with skating?" Without freedom, there would be no skateboarding. We would all be slaves to America's bogus ideals with no such way to shape our lives creatively. There would be no naked 540s, no old man bowl jams, no loop outs, nothin'. Our four-wheeled turning system attached to a piece of wood is probably the best exercise of freedom you can do as a human; no friggin' rules, am I right? When Frank had the idea of shooting off fireworks with the SPoT dudes, I was pretty hyped, so I invited myself as per usual. Check out the edit and these photos, but more importantly, this 4th of July I ask you to get out there and push for fun just like our forefathers wanted us to. Break free, my bros. Break free.

When Frank told me there was a 4th of July shoot happening, you know I had to get behind the scenes!
Warm-ups in the dungeon, Frank left the baby at home to declare his independence on this switch crook.
Alejandro had no problem at all dishing out this back smith, no problem at all.
Dylan can do backside tailslides on just about anything. Wax? Nah, man. He don't need no stinkin' wax.
Yung 'Dro kicked off all the fun with this frontside air. Can't get much more American than that.
Caught Dylan gettin' blunted amongst all the smoke and fire.
Frank was really feeling the heat judging by the sweat on his shirt. Bring a towel next time, sheesh!
Ok, I lied. This is probably the most American thing I have ever seen. This is what our forefathers fought for. This is freedom.
On to the hip! Our pyrotechnicians got real crafty on this one, just check the footage.
Dylan had to shut it down with the signature backside flip, so patriotic. Happy 4th indeed.
