Zaturdays: Your "Best" Picks Article at Skatepark of Tampa

Zaturdays: Your "Best" Picks

Posted on Friday, July 15, 2016 by Paul

So last week I asked your picks for the Best Things about Skateboarding. And what do you know, you answered. Not quite at the level of excitement of a Pokémon Go but still. Since I failed to reply to anyone I decided to do it in this week’s Zaturdays, which took forever btw. You sort of owe me now, but thank you for playing along.

@adam_cassey: The post skate bath
PZ: Probably wouldn’t make the top 100 on my list but I appreciate the input. Are we talking ice bath here though? Or more like a nice, long, hot soak with candles burning and soft music playing? That could be the determining factor.

Logan Capps: Getting chased by security guards.
PZ: This is a good one Logan. I agree, kind of, it can be fun and it’s always exciting, except when you get caught. So maybe we should also include “…and getting away from them.”

@davecorley.exe: the sense of accomplishment when you finally land somethin’
PZ: Agreed! In fact, that’s pretty much the same exact thing I put as my top pick on my list on the blog, so even though I have to assume you didn’t read it, I appreciate the support.

@bradyjohnson3: The feeling when getting a new bosrd
PZ: I thought you were going to say new “board” Brady, I don’t know what a “bosrd” even is…I kid, I kid. New boards are great, top 100 for sure.

@lbskate: Need more Best, less Worst
PZ: I supposed you might be right @lbskate, but let’s be honest here LB, the 100 Worst was pretty entertaining wasn’t it?

@will__ross33: When you get new wheels
PZ: Vincent Alvarez would not agree, but most of the rest of us probably would Will.
@itsnotaron: Landing a back to back with your homies
PZ: True! Backing up your bros, a 100 Best shoe in.

@itsnotaron: Skating stress off
PZ: Multiple answers are good Itsnotaron, and so is skating stress off. Is this something you want to talk more about Itsnotaron? Why you so stressed?

@itsnotaron: Finally landing something you’ve worked for
PZ: Okay okay Itsnotaron, let’s let some other people answer okay?

@the_skater_boy64: Landing the hardest trick in your state of mind
I like where you’re coming from here Skater Boy…unfortunately my state of mind has only been allowing for relatively low ollies lately.

@andersskogz: Paul Zitzer’s part in static
PZ: Shucks Anders! Dude DM me and we can hang out. Just kidding, but thanks. I gotta say however that there are like 8 million other video parts that you and I both know would be on the list before my Static part.

@lickatounge: What account is the worst things on
PZ: You did not follow my instructions Lickarounge. We’re talking about the BEST Things here. Positivity bro!

@goneallday12: When your going over some stairs or doing a high ledge the feeling when ur in the air
PZ: Yeah buddy! Air time rules, I had it on my list too, I just didn’t have mine going off a high ledge.

@dannysk8s_: Sleeping after you landed a hard trick
PZ: Dannysk8s taking it up a notch. I’m usually too excited after landing a hard trick to go straight to sleep, but I appreciate it, because really I guess the way I see it is that the only thing in the world better than sleeping is being awake.
@i_skate_fla: The freedom to create and the art.
PZ: Totally, skate and create.

@6jonsk8: When your grip job is perfect
PZ: Good grip is key to a good shred. I like to put my grip on sideways, 90s style, you ever do that 6jon?

@averyashley9: Riding away from the banger and the homies getting hype
PZ: No doubt. Incorporating the homies is always a plus. So this is of a two-for-one on Bests.

@blkprjkt: “The 100 worst things about skateboarding guy on Insta” (with 3 tears of laughter emojis)
PZ: For those that weren’t paying attention, Mr. Blk Prjkt is the one who did the 100 Worst List. I’m still impressed with the amount of effort that he put into it. That’s like Heath riding across the United States on his bicycle that one time.
@yodasoda321: Going out skating with ur homies
PZ: It’s the simple things isn’t it.

@damien_336: Landing bolts and getting it on film
PZ: And I’d add “then posting it to the gram!”

@yodasoda321: Pumping a skate park as fast as you can and feeling the breeze
PZ: So refreshing.

@damien_336: You land a trick and the homies got your back and lands
PZ: Yup, Itsnotaron already put this one on the list but thanks for having his back and landing.

@j_cookie_: The feeling when getting new wheels and barings
PZ: You just one upped @will__ross33, he’s stuck with his new wheels and you done put new barings in yours. I mean bearings, sorry.

@travon.willss: The feeling when you’ve been struggling on a trick for awhile then one day you land it clean asf
PZ: Dude, I gotta admit, it really doesn’t get much better than that Travon.

@elhajjmalikelzhabazz: #8
PZ: I have no idea what that means Elhaj.

@alraunen: Best thing about skating is that if you had a great day go skate, if you had a bad day go to skate. It’s the best therapy ever.
PZ: If only you could bill your insurance for the money you save on psychiatric bills.
@euaninnit: When you plan a skate roadtrip with the homies and you all meetup in the morning
PZ: Yep! Who’s bringing donuts?

@alexmillhair: When you lock-in perfectly
PZ: You mean like the lock in where you stay up all night at the skatepark? Lock ins are great! I’m joking, but for reals, smith grinds are my choice but I’m assuming you’re more of a switch crooks varial flip out kid.

@phasmatoodea: When the security guard enjoys and lets you keep skating
PZ: Come on, that doesn’t happen. Does it?

@erik__rivera: Best thing about skating is landing that trick that was taking you hours!!
PZ: Erik, we’ve already covered this one but it definitely bears repeating.

@christl314: The best thing about skating is being able to have your own style and ur own community of people that have the same passion that u do. Skateboarders don’t see race they see another skater.
PZ: Very good input here Chirstl, very mature and well thought out. Christl for student body president!

@jwpaz: bitches love skaters
PZ: How about we call them ladies, or women…or skate betties, but yeah, if they can’t have Justin Bieber then why not some pimply kid who can’t sing or dance and has bloody shins.

@toshscorner: The ability to learn how to talk to, and relate to, people of all colors and backgrounds. For that, I’ll always be thankful.
PZ: So skateboarding as a uniter, not a divider. Very good answer here Tosh. And not to be mean but also a good answer for any question they’ve ever asked in a Miss America pageant.
@kadin_c: Pushing down the street!! Not a worry in the world
PZ: Pretty sure you nailed the essense of it all here Kadin. Top 100 for sure.

@dshredd: When your mid trick off a stair of rail or even on flat and you can just feel it the perfect flick catch stomp nothing like it
PZ: Personally I seem to be really good at catching it primo every time, but I’d like to get to experience what you’re talking about here Dshredd.

@harrison_edwardss: Hands are available
PZ: I think I’m missing something here Harrison. Hands are available…for what.

@dirtywordz: It's wireless, anything wireless is good
PZ: Wow, this is one is by far my FAVORITE.

@judheald: People come to Jesus through skateboarding
PZ: Yeah Jud! Readers, if you don’t already know, Jud Heald, aka Farm Boy, skates Tampa Pro every year and can nose blunt anything. Thanks for doing what you do Jud.

@bryannxgastonn: Dude bart got back noseblunts
PZ: Not really bryann…that’s actually Koston dressed up like Bart.
@b.dee_ig: homies
PZ: I can’t argue with the homies.

@instajerm_: @spottampa
PZ: Yes! SPoT is definitely one of the best things about skateboarding.

@tyhendrixharris: The slapping noise of decks on concrete you hear from fellow skaters when you finally land that trick
PZ: Good one Ty. Stoke from the homies is good for the soul.

@seananderson966: The sound of a rail
PZ: Grind or slide?

@rothdigga: Oh snap. I hope #2 is the #bigpantssmallwheels era. Fingers crossed!
PZ: Readers, @rothdigga is code for Jason Rothmeyer, Santa Cruz and Foundation pro from the 1990s. When it comes to manuals, before there was Daewon Song there was Jason Rothmeyer.
@liam.f.mcdonough: Stomping and rolling away
PZ: I think we’re all in agreement at this point that landing tricks is the tightest.

@dirtywordz: rad dads, and the fact that it’s for everyone and anyone
PZ: I’m a dad too Dirtywordz…always aspiring to be a rad one.

@asphaltposersclub: Gimmicks and click bait. Can’t believe you made me read that.
PZ: Now that you’ve read this one APC, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s worse, much much worse.

@leonardtrubia: You can successfully play skate shoe detective by merely looking at a skater’s shoes
PZ: So true Leonard. For example, you can tell this guy can do hardflip to backside crail block, one out of 30 tries on mini ramps 4’ tall or lower, after 3 Tall Cans during the Tuesday night old man sessions even though he’s six months shy of his 25th birthday and thus should probably not even be allowed to skate the Tuesday night old man session but his high stoke level gets him a pass.
