Photos From Curtis Valentine Memorial Session

Posted on Friday, September 1, 2017 by Chris

Last Sunday we got a bunch of friends together to celebrate the memory of an old friend, OG Skatepark local and true Tampa legend, Curtis Valentine. We lost Curtis in a tragic accident recently and it only seemed right to get the old crew back together at SPoT for a Session. In his honor we ripped the course, cracked beers, sipped Henny, grilled out and rolled dice, all the while telling our old stories about the first time we met Curtis or the time he verbally destroyed us in the Snack Bar when we were 15. Check out some photos from the day's events...

It wouldn't be a day for Curtis if we didn't bring out the dice. Curtis was actually the first person to explain the "real way" to play C-Lo. "None of this roll until you get something crap! Three rolls and you're done!"
Piro and Baby Drew laid their money down...
...and Dave is more than happy to pick it up for them.
Old stories brought a smile to Rob's face.
And everyone was feeling Curtis' positive energy, even on this somber day.
So many OG's on the scene...
John Gow was one of those OG's in attendance. So good to see you B!
John Paul brought the Buffalo Skate Truck for us to skate. Thanks Partytime!
The Hennessey bottle got passed around in memory...

"Hennessy for the energy."
Thanks for handling the grill Justin!
We wouldn't let anything ruin the vibes today; especially not the torrential downpours.
Curtis' family came and hung out all day, listening to all of our old stories and sharing ones that we had never heard. They all have incredibly strong spirits and their energy is infectious. It was a honor meeting you all and we are truly sorry for your loss.
After a few hours of grilling and playing dice, it was time to get together and check out old photos and videos starring Curtis, including an awesome audition tape that he made for VICE.
But first, Scotty performed the infamous "Cancel Dance". If you don't know, the Cancel Dance was created by Curtis to essentially kick people out of the skatepark, or just call them out for some kind of gear crisis.
It was a stellar performance, and the crowd responded accordingly.
Gigantic thank you's to every single person who made time to pay their respects to Curtis and to everyone who made this Memorial Session possible; including The Valentine family, the Shaqueefa squad for organizing and cooking and to anyone who shared their stories with us. See you all at next year's Curtis Valentine Memorial Session. Rest In Peace Curtis.
