NYC Vans Skateboard Drive Distribution with Boards for Bros

Posted on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 by Chris

On June 23, Boards for Bros joined our friends at Vans for their first Skateboard Drive Distribution event in NYC. It was a complete success and the community of Canarsie, NY couldn’t be more thankful and appreciative. Throughout the day we hosted over 150 people, and distributed over 100 skateboards to kids who needed skateboards in their lives. After living near a skatepark and not having skateboards to use it, all of the kids throughout the day were in high spirits, and super eager to learn how to ride their skateboards.

Huge thanks to all who came out to help make this event so awesome. Boards for Bros HQ was represented by Sam Bellipanni, Wesley Box and our Executive Director, Michelle Box. Boards for Bros NJ was in the house too - thanks to Derek Rinaldi and Jake McNichol for coming out! The Vans team of Brian Keating, Morgan Wong, Mark Delnegro, Alec Chavarsky, and Brad Wyatt killed it!

Stay tuned for coverage from our second Vans Skateboard Drive Distribution event next weekend in Los Angeles.

We had a blast spending the day with kids in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Volunteers helped the kids decorate their boards so they knew it was theirs to keep.
SPoT’s own Camp Instructor/Boards for Bros Intern Sam Bellipanni made the trip all the way from Tampa just to show these kids how to skate.
Kids could build their own board from scratch if they wanted.
Brad Wyatt killed it organizing the event and working to get over 100 skateboards built.
We had some future skateboard graphic artists working on their skills all day.
Thanks to everyone who donated at NJ Skateshop, KCDC and Labor, the kids had lots of skateboards to choose from.
Michelle was greeting the families and introducing them to the volunteers who where there to help with building and lessons.
These kids will be able to maintain their complete skateboards because they know how to put one together.
SPoT Team Rider/Boards for Bros Volunteer Wesley Box also made the trip from Tampa to give group lessons all day.
Team work makes the dream work! Thank you to KCDC, Labor, NJ Skateshop and Vans for giving the gift of skateboarding to over 100 kids.
