Boards for Bros Distribution In Hollywood, Florida

Posted on Monday, May 6, 2019 by Michelle

On April 27, the Boards for Bros Tampa HQ team joined our amazing Boards for Bros South Florida squad for a super fun skate clinic and skateboard distribution at Stanley Goldman Memorial Park in Hollywood. We hosted "Littles" and "Bigs" from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Broward County. Everyone was eager and learned so much thanks to the awesome volunteers who were giving amazing one-on-one instruction. Shout out to Matt Silvestri and Lorna Galloway for all the work they are doing in South Florida to give the gift of skateboarding to area youth and thank you to BBBS-Broward for including skateboarding in your youth programming.

Our field research has shown us that any decks with animals on them are the most popular at our skateboard distributions. This sweet deck with Enjoi grip was the first one snatched up by the first kid to arrive - we knew it would be the first to go!
After the kids grab their boards, they hit up the paint pen station to customize their grip. We do this because it is fun, encourages gives them ownership of their board and it avoids “he/she took my board” conflicts during the session!
Volunteer instructor Zion offered fun and attentive lessons to make sure every kid’s first skateboarding experience was an awesome one.
Lauren killed it all day - volunteering her time to make sure everyone’s balance was just right and helped everyone she worked with gain confidence on their board.
It was “all hands on deck” as Joel Box (Boards for Bros Tampa HQ van driver and “lifter of heavy things”) pitched in to make sure all the kids got the basics they needed to keep skating on their own.
Boards for Bros South Florida Ambassador Matt Silvestri organizes events and collects donations for one of our busiest regions of the country. We appreciate everything he and Lorna do to spread the stoke.
In skateboarding, peer to peer instruction happens every day. Skaters of all ages learn skills and pass them on to others who want to learn. We see this circle of learning at all of our skateboarding distributions and it is so rad.
Thank you Boards for Bros South Florida and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County for making this hot and sweaty day an epic one full of skating and new friends.
