2016 Tampa Am Format Change

Posted on on Friday, October 07, 2016 by Chris

Attention skaters and team managers, This year we’re instituting a new qualifying system for Tampa Am. In the past, Friday and Saturday’s skaters have been picked from the same pool with the top 16 from each day advancing. If you’ve paid any attention at all you know it can be kind of a mess. But now, for the first time, we’re tightening things up and we will be using different criteria to pick skaters in each day’s Qualifiers. So you have the terms right, Friday will be known as the Open Qualifier, while Saturday will be the official Tampa Am Qualifier. Here’s the full breakdown of who will be skating each day, and which of them will be advancing to the next rounds.

FRIDAY OPEN QUALIFER

150 skaters from all over the world with little or no prior Tampa Am experience will be skating in 3 minute / 3 skater jams. The top 10 skaters of the day will advance.
  • 1st place goes to Sunday Semi-Finals
  • 2nd – 10th go to Saturday Tampa Am Qualifier

SATURDAY TAMPA AM QUALIFER

100 skaters will be skating in 3 minute / 2 skater jams. They will consist of the Top 10 (in some cases 12) skaters from each Damn Am stop, 2nd – 10th place from Friday’s Open Qualifier, plus approximately 30 hand picked international ams.
  • 1st place goes to Sunday Finals
  • 2nd – 24th go to Sunday Semi-Finals

SUNDAY SEMI-FINALS

30 skaters will be taking two one-minute runs. They will consist of the 1st place skater from Friday’s Open Qualifier, 2nd – 24th from Saturday’s Tampa Am Qualifier, the winners of individual Damn Am stops (Jereme Knibbs, Lucas Alves, Alex Midler, Yoshi Tanenbaum), and the winner of 2015 Tampa Am (Aurelien Giraud).
  • Top 10 go to Finals

SUNDAY FINALS

12 skaters will be taking three one-minute runs. They will consist of the 2016 Damn Am of the Year (Zach Saraceno), the 1st place skater from Saturday’s Tampa Am Qualifier, and the top 10 from Sunday’s Semi-Finals. For the second year StreetLeague.com will host a live two-day webcast of the event. Saturday’s webcast will include the Tampa Am Qualifier followed by the Independent Best Trick contest and Converse Concrete Jam. Sunday’s show will consist of Semi-Finals and Finals.
