A Trip to Lakeland Public Skatepark

Posted on on Sunday, December 16, 2001 by Ryan

The SPoT crew took a Lakeland tour last weekend. We skated the Cunningham mini-ramp and the Lakeland public skate park. Sorry, but I forgot to take a picture of lunch at Lakeland Hooters...impressive talent there though. Check out the photos and what I think of the public park.

Lakeland Skatepark

There has been a skate park in Lakeland for a couple of years now, but I never had the chance to check it out until last weekend. I commend the city of Lakeland for trying, but I've never seen a bigger waste of cement in my life. The designers and constructors of this atrocious collaboration of hardened sand apparently have never stepped on a skateboard in their lives.

I heard that the City intends on adding more. If so, listen to me. If you plan on making any "improvements" or additions, please hire a skateboard-oriented professional to design, build, and oversee the entire project.

Don’t get me wrong though, we still had a fun time skating the only obstacle there worth rolling our wheels across, the quarter-pipe that actually had coping. Check the photos (all shot by Tom Cunningham – who, by the way, should get "Father Of The Year").

No little kid points here. Forrest Cunningham rips! Nosegrab blunt.

A frontside 50-50 on this qp is no joke. Forrest tearing it up again.

The Boss. 5-0 grind to fakie. No ponytail.

Yours truly. Frontside 5-0 to revert, just before getting aced by a local.

Brian Sloane is another reason to not go there; he's already done every trick on that qp. Yes, this is a frontside blunt.

Sloane with a textbook blunt to fakie.
