Have you ever wondered, "How does X board company even survive?" when no one you know backs it. One thing you might not realize is different parts of the country are pretty different when it comes to the skateboard companies they back. This week on Nerdsday Thursday, I'm looking at the top 15 board company sales in our online shop broken down between West Coast states and East Coast states.

This week on Nerdsday Thursday, I'm looking at the top 15 board company sales in our online shop broken down between West Coast states and East Coast states. First, there's the list for each coast for 2012. Below that, I have a list for each coast for a wider time period of 2003 to 2012. Finally, a third column shows top companies for just the SPoT physical shop location. A few observations are below each section.

Some 2012 observations:
- For 2012, it's no surprise Girl tops it across the board. I think even without Pretty Sweet, that would be the case.
- Real comes in second place on the East Coast and in our Shop, while Baker is second place on the West Coast. Baker is 6th on the East Coast and way down in 10th in our Shop. Has The Boss' influence dropped on this coast or what?
- Plan B is 10th on the West Coast, but doesn't even make the list in the East Coast. For the Shop in 2012, Plan B comes far down in 12th. Will the Plan B video coming out in like 2025 change that? Hurry up, ya'll.
- DGK is 6th in the Shop and doesn't even make the list on the West Coast for 2012. For the entire East Coast, it's down in 14th. Looks like the locals at SPoT back DGK more than the rest of the country.

Some observations from the last 10 years:
- For the time period 2003 – 2012, Krooked rules the West Coast while Baker tops the East and Shop sales. That's pretty different than what just 2012 shows, especially with Baker. What's happening there?
- Girl has been strong the whole decade with the number two spot across the board.
- Element appears 3rd on the West Coast but doesn't make the top 10 for the East Coast.
- I find it amazing that Alien Workshop doesn't appear in the list for the West Coast at all while it's 3rd in the East Coast. In the Shop, it's in 8th.
- No surprise that Santa Cruz only appears in the West Coast list.
- One thing to keep in mind with top skateboarding companies in the Shop column is how those brands are heavily influenced by our staff behind the counter. For a couple years, we had Wizard Smoke pushing Element hard, we had Robbie pushing DGK and prior to that Zoo York. Things like that definitely affect sales.
