GvR Contest Format
Thrasher Magazine is the Team Captain for the Regular Team while The Skateboard Mag is Team Captain for the Goofy Team. Each Team Captain picks five skaters from the GvR website to pre-qualify them for their Team. These five pre-qualified skaters will go straight into the GvR Finals on Sunday.

On Saturday, qualifiers for the rest of the Goofy and Regular Team skaters take place. The Goofy and Regular skaters will compete to make the cut of 10 for each Team. The 10 from each Team then join the five pre-chosen skaters and these 15 skaters then comprise each Team for the Finals on Sunday.

During Sunday’s Finals, skaters on both Teams will compete in two distinct sessions. In the first half, a coin toss will determine which Team skates first. Each of the three heats will feature five different skaters from both Teams who will complete two, 60-second individual runs with the best of the two runs counting towards the overall score. In the second half, each Team will select a minimum of three skaters from their respective Team to compete in a jam format in one of two heats. One substitution per heat will be allowed after five minutes of the heat has commenced, with the best Team score counting towards each Team’s overall score. Finally, if less than 25 points separates the two teams, the Team that is behind in overall score will challenge the other Team to a game of S.K.A.T.E. (similar to the game of H.O.R.S.E. in basketball) in any area of the skatepark they choose. Each Team will pick two skaters to go head-to-head and the winning team will receive an extra 25 bonus points towards their overall score.

Band Bios
The Skulls
Originally formed in 1977, The Skulls were one of LA’s true original punk bands. No ‘rich kids,’; this band was the genuine article. Raised on a diet of MC5, Stooges, T-Rex and Bowie, The Skulls added spices which included The Saints, Vibrators, X-Ray Spex, The Ruts, Pistols, The Avengers, and The Ramones to become a staple ingredient of the LA punk scene. The perfect band for the Bowl portion of this year's GvR.

Letter Kills
Letter Kills is a spirited manifesto of independence and self-belief—a band who embraces numerous musical styles including 70's punk, pop, metal—even classic rock, and ties them into something highly energized and instantly engaging. Letter Kills has become known for their thunderous, kinetic stage presentation which you can experience at this year’s GvR.

Pretty Girls Make Graves
A fusion of the still-glowing embers of nearly a dozen important groups, Pretty Girls Make Graves formed in Seattle in 2001. The band released an EP on DimMak before releasing their debut album, Good Health, on Lookout in April 2002. If Good Health was the exhilarating sound of five people mashing their myriad ideas and influences into fresh noise, then their The New Romance is the sound of one incredibly confident band capable of anything. Lead singer Andrea Zollo is ferocious, sultry, and whip-smart. She sings about separation, sedation, television, boredom, sadness, and addiction—and does so with enough urgency to snap you out of all six. Basically, she wants you to get off your ass and there’s no doubt that’s exactly what will happen once you see them at this year’s GvR.

DJ Cesar
Cesar began his DJ career back in the early 90’s club scene in Hollwood, CA. He has been involved with skateboarding for the past 20 years and has been spinning at skateboard events for the last six years. Come check him out on Friday and Saturday of GvR.

DJ Peyote Cody
Known for mashing up old school metal and hip-hop, DJ Peyote Cody has built a buzz following in the hip-hop underground. With three mix-tapes under his belt, Peyote Cody has developed a style that not many can replicate. In addition to his weekly resident appearances in LA clubs, Peyote Cody has become the official GvR DJ.
