Happy 10 Years
It's been ten years of me working full time at SPoT.
Just over a decade ago, the dot com bubble was bursting and my job at the software company I worked at took a poop along with the company itself.
While making north of six figures there, I was doing the SPoT site while on the clock because there was nothing to do or I finished everything faster than I should have. Then came the day where I got fired, laid off, canned, whatever you want to call it.
Anyway, that ended and I needed something to move on to. Prior to the software thing, I had left accounting out of near death by boredom. I wasn't really sure what to do. The SPoT website I was doing on the side for fun had a fair amount of traffic building up from me posting the same old silly crap I've always done like foot fetishes and Frontside Grind Magazine.
After a few meetings with Ryan and Brian, we agreed that I could start full time at the Park. It was a massive step down in salary I was already used to, but I went for it anyway. My first job would be to write our point of sale and inventory system that would integrate with our website so we could have an online store with live inventory, fast shipping, great service, and minimal staff running it all. I figured once that was done I might get bored again or run out of work after a few months. Since that day 10 years ago, it has been nothing but the opposite. Plenty of work and not a boring day yet.
Thanks again Ryan and Brian for saving me from a life of stiff suits and normal crap. January 1, 2012 marks 10 years I’ve been here and I couldn’t be happier with everything I’ve learned, the friends I’ve made, the idols I’ve met, and the things I’ve been a part of creating, all while having the luxury of staying close to my first love, skateboarding. Happy New Years to you, Happy 10 Years to me. Here’s to another 20 or 30 more.
