Kris Markovich Interview

Posted on on Monday, July 02, 2001 by Ryan

KRIS MARKOVICH INTERVIEW For those that didn’t know, Kris Markovich is coming out with a new skateboard company titled Hollywood Skateboards. A couple of months ago, two issues in a row, Hollywood ran ads in Big Brother Magazine; the pages were entirely black with the exception of www.hollywoodskateboards.com written very small in the corner. Go check them out so you know why I asked Kris the following questions when I got the opportunity to chat with him. Ryan: Ryan Clements here with Kris Markovich on the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tour. How about the new Hollywood Skateboards, Kris? Kris: It’s a new skateboard company through Tum Yeto. I’m doing it, I have a few riders on: Don Winn (sorry, I messed that one up), Dorian Tucker, and Richie Belton right now. I’m switching over to it in probably about February or so. I’m just going to stay on Foundation and just work and build the company up that way and switch over down the line. Ryan: How about the first ads? They really were banned? Kris: Oh yeah, they were definitely banned. Ryan: I went to the website and checked them out. Kris: Yeah, they were, um, the first one they said they couldn’t run because there was a credit card that said, “Capital One,” and then a Nokia phone. And we tried to take them off and they were like, “Well, we can’t do it now because of drugs.”…’cause I don’t know; (Larry) Flynt and the Bush administration, something’s going on there. Ryan: Interesting, you’d think of all people that they wouldn’t have cared. Kris: Yeah, Bush is in, he’s just coming down on Flynt super-hard so everything’s super-clean-cut. And then on the next one they said, “…it promoted suicide…” So we couldn’t do it. Ryan: It was entertaining to say the least. Kris: It’s all in good fun, but… Sorry for the short interview, but there were about 50 people on the tour bus wanting to talk to all of the guys and I’m sure the last thing Kris wanted to do was an interview.
