I’ve been to a few skate parks over the past several years, but it’s rare that I get the same feeling that I get from Skatepark of Tampa. I’m not saying that the other parks are necessarily lame; I’m just saying that they don’t have the same vibe as SPoT.
Phat City Contest October 12, 2002 By Ryan Clements Vans locks you in the skating area and won’t allow you to bring in your own water. There are some parks that are owned by straight-up businessmen. There are other parks in Florida that are operated by middle-aged people that know hardly anything about skateboarding, much less having ever stepped on a skateboard. That’s cool. Whatever. It doesn’t mean that those places automatically suck; it just means that they’re not comparable to Skatepark of Tampa. There is one place that’s as laid back as SPoT, and that’s Phat City Skatepark in Kissimmee. An old friend of mine, Brian Liptak, owns it. Although it’s small and limited, it has a great vibe, and that’s what makes a great skate park. They had an open division street contest on October 12th and we went to check it out. Keep up the good work and the SPoT crew will keep coming back. Ryan Results PHAT CITY SKATEPARK OPEN AM 2002
