History was made last night at the Academy Awards when "Learning To Skateboard In a Warzone (If You're A Girl)", directed by Carol Dysinger won an Oscar. It's a powerful documentary about the Skateistan School in Afghanistan. It's also the first time a film about skateboarding has ever won anything of this magnitude. Normally I don't think too much about award shows in general, but the publicity and awareness for these types of organizations will undoubtedly grow because of this. Once the news spreads and people start blowing up the Google machine with "skateboard charity", they will get a pretty good idea of how skateboarding can be used as a positive tool for those in under served communities, and not just here in America. Our own Boards for Bros is a perfect example. So congratulations to Carol and all the girls in Afghanistan - keep pursuing your dreams. And congratulations to skateboarding.
