In a few short weeks, skaters around the country will start to make their way back to Tampa. During the Tampa Am weekend, there are certain things that come with the territory: Top-notch skating, hangovers, getting hit by a rogue egg during the Moat Race and drinking free beer. Aside from the memories, there is one thing that will stay with some of the contest attendees forever. For years, free tattoos have been an integral part of the Tampa experience. It’s no coincidence that your favorite skater probably has a SPoT tattoo on them; chances are high that they got it right here at the park. At last year’s Tampa Am, Cody Morgan, a 20-year-old from Raleigh, NC was hanging around the tattoo table when he told commander in chief, Brian Schaefer, that he would get his face inked on his leg.
Once the needle got started, Schaefer gave Morgan $30 and then another $20 after the ink dried. Every year there are a handful of questionable tattoos that go down, but Morgan’s was the definitely the strangest of 2014.
“I feel kinda bad for the kid,” Schaefer said afterward. “It’s weird.” “I think it’s fucking rad!” says Morgan.
There’s just one question –Who is going to one-up this tattoo at this year’s event? - Sean Bowes
