'Tis The Season For Thievery
By Ryan Clements

It's been almost a year since this episode went down, and I was thinking about it the other day because we recently caught a thief in the Shop. If you have a few minutes, below is the email battle I had with some anonymous guy that I had never met that was defending his friend who admittedly stole from SPoT. It's sad to think that some skateboarders will steal from others and have no conscience about it whatsoever.

THIS IS MY ORIGINAL EMAIL:

This is to Kyle and anyone that associates with him:

We were recently reviewing postcards that were sent on our website and found the following:

3288 kyle oldirtyskaterat@hotmail.com mdcmv freeganvc@yahoo.com "crazy bands, mad beer, good sessions and bitches that fxxk are all good reasons for us to make a road trip to tampa in a couple of months for the pro contest.drew just got back from the am contest this month he got me an axion shirt signed by salmon agah and andrew reynolds im stoked i cant wait to go back,i kinda feel bad for jacckin those clothes now.oh well when you cant afford clothes i guess yoou gotta do what you gotta do,im sure ryan and schaeffer would understand, live fast die young , skate to live live to skate and eat sxxt and smoke crack words to live by

take it easy brother

yo nig-kyle" 1/21/2002 22:01

It's nice to know that you feel bad for "jacking those clothes." You say, "you gotta do what you gotta do?" Is that your mentality as an "old dirty skater?" You HAD to steal clothes from Skatepark of Tampa, huh? You can't afford clothes, but you can afford a trip to Tampa? That doesn't make much sense to me. It's too bad that we have people like you that participate in our lifestyle. Your lack of respect for others' property gives all of us a bad name. And it pisses me off even more to think that you drank free beer provided by us at our Anniversary Party.

I always get a kick out of losers like you that think that just because someone else has something you don't, that for some reason you're entitled to it. Brian, Barry, Rob, and our entire staff have all worked remarkably hard in the past several years to do what we've done with SPoT. We have more sweat equity and heart in this place than any other skate park in the fxxking world, and since you've been here, you know exactly what I'm talking about. And honestly, it makes me sick to think that after all we give back to skateboarding, that skaters like yourself steal from us.

And believe me, when you say, "ryan and schaeffer would understand," you couldn't be farther from the truth. I can speak for Brian and everyone here at the Skatepark...we don't understand and we're not cool with you.

If you feel so bad, why don't you get your lazy ass a job and send us a check for everything you stole? What the hell am I thinking by requesting that from you? You're too busy living fast and dying young, right? You're so fxxking punk, Man. Let me guess, you don't have a steady job by choice right? Is that your way of rebelling against the system? Wow, that's revolutionary!

By the way, I guarantee you that if Salman knew what type of person you are, he never would have signed that shirt. Same with Andrew.

You obviously know how to get in touch with me if you would like to talk to me.

Sincerely,

Ryan T. Clements

THIS IS MY REPLY BACK TO HIM:

Matt,

Whoever this Kyle guy is sent that original postcard message to you, so am I to assume that you are friends with him?  Or did he just pick you out of thin air to send a postcard to?  How can I get in touch with him directly?

If you're not the thief, then don't take offense to my message.  And come on, you think that I'm "bitchin" because someone stole from me?  Wouldn't you be pissed, too?  So think twice when you call me an axxhole, because I'm simply reacting to a situation that I had no control over.  I'm not the thief or the axxhole.  Those titles belong to the person that stole from us.

Later,

Ryan

again, fxxk off. i dont even know you. besides ive got the edge,,, ive never been there, never drank your poison, never stolen a penny from you,,,,,,and as far as kyle is concerned thats his/yours business so take care of your own problems and leave alone. oh, and referring to that "so punk rock" comment you really dont even know who youre talking to and if you did youd back the fxxk off.

I STARTED TRYING TO REASON WITH HIM:

Matt,

Come on, Man, calm down.  Like I stated in my last email, we're just trying to find out who this Kyle guy is.  The only reason that you're even involved is because he emailed YOU with the info that he stole from us.  He's apparently your friend, so why don't you drop him an email and tell him to man-up and contact us?

Ryan

HIS IGNORANCE IS REALLY SHOWING WITH HIS FINAL REPLY:

sorry pal, i dont know you, so i dont really care....and im sick of all your moral lessons. im not sellin out my boy no matter what he did to you. its your score to settle dont bring me into this unless you are interested in problems.

YOU WIN SOME, YOU LOSE SOME – MY FINAL REPLY:

Matt,

Okay, although I don't agree with you, I guess I see where you're coming from.  You're sticking by your friend, and that I can understand.  You may be sick of my moral lessons, but your friend Kyle is the one in need of them, and possibly you, too, since you're content with him stealing.  So be it...I assure you that you will not hear from me again.

Ryan
