Kyle Berard was the first person to win both Tampa Am and Tampa Pro. If anything, that might be his claim to fame as a professional skateboarder. It could be worse. A couple things you should know about Kyle: He’s ATV, not just a ‘crete skater, and he was famous for being able to do kickflip front boards every try before that craze came and went. He looks Nor Cal but he’s an OG East Coaster and the nicest dude ever. He currently runs his own skatepark construction business, Front Rock Concrete, in fact you’ll see him pouring Hoffart’s backyard bowl in the clip below. For whatever reason Kyle ended up on “anti-corporate” companies for much of his career, which is good for street cred but bad for turning skills into cash. Oh well, Kyle is one of those blue collar pros I like to talk about that are super rad and maybe a little underappreciated. I’m not sure how we’d feel about him if he were the kind of guy that kept upgrading to the newest Bentley each year. Regardless, I gave Kyle a call to get some insight on his 2001 Tampa Pro win and laid the audio over some tricks he had in Lee DuPont’s part in The Cinematographer Project video, and it’s followed by a full Elephant part. Yeah, remember Elephant?
