Press Release: Ryan Sheckler Wins The Global Assault
Ryan's Dad, Randy Sheckler, said, "... those NiNjA bearings carried Ryan to 1st place at the Globe World Championships". Ryan Sheckler, 16, from California thrilled the capacity crowd at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia with an awesome range of flip tricks, grinds and airs to take the contest and $30,000.
"I feel really good - I don't know if I expectetd to win but I definitely expected to skate the way I did and how it all ended up was fine," Ryan said.
After five years of staging the world's largest skate event in conjunction with World Cup Skateboarding, GLOBE decided it was time for a change and put toghether the Global Assault as a stand alone event with focus on the skateboarding - not the time or the points. The result was the most fair, legit and open format skateboard competition ever.
"The new format was good, everyone had a chance to skate really well and the chance to land tricks but didn't have to do it on the first shot," Ryan said. "The course was really fun too - Melbourne is great, the crowd was awesome."
Ryan said he wasn't surprised he and second placed Nyjah Huston, age 11 from Florida, had done so well. "We didn't care, we've got nothing to worry about, it's all uphill for us and we're just going for it."
Congratulations Ryan!!!
