The Story of a Crusty Mexican Blanket

Posted on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 07:26 PM by Rob

There's a blanket handmade in Tijuana with each pair of the SPoT 20 Year Nike SB Lance Mountain Dunk Low that's releasing this Saturday. Over 20 years ago before SPoT opened its doors, Tampa needed a place to house the vert ramp that was in Paul Zitzer's warehouse. Brian Schaefer set off on trip to San Jose to skate and check out some skateparks there. When he found some friends who had a warehouse full of ramps where they lived in to save money, he knew that’s how we would go back to Tampa to start SPoT. On that trip, he went to Tijuana and picked up a Mexican blanket. Since SPoT opened up on January 1, 1993, that blanket has been used to cover the front door to keep the sketchy neighborhood creepers from peering into the shop and getting grand plans to rob the place. Still to this day, the blanket hangs on the door. We hope you can make it to the release this Saturday at SPoT Ybor at noon. If you’re out of state, check @SPoTTampa on Instagram for a contest we’re having to win the right to buy a pair that we will ship to you. Thanks for 20 years of support. We hope you have 20 more. We’ll be here doing the same thing. 93 ‘till infinity.
