On Friday during Tampa Pro, the Team Manager/Industry VIP Contest is where all of us older, slower, and washed up career status types have a fun competition of our own. Every year, I'm stuck behind the desk up front doing registration and check-in. I did manage to sneak out and shoot a few photos. After that, the Tampa Am Vert Contest is on. Man, I wish I had more time to put on the editor hat and send some issues of Frontside Grind Magazine to press. Here are a few photos from each Contest.
Frosty is chief of the Maintenance Department at SPoT. He is far, far from being a hippie, but he's got the jump.
Skater Profile: Jason Fintel aka Frosty Scott Koerner and Dakine have been backing Tampa Pro and Skatepark of Tampa since back in the day.
Skater Profile: Scott Koerner You all know Vern Laird from the mic at SPoTlight Productions shindigs. His role this weekend was Bones TM.
Skater Profile: Vern Laird Mark Goldman is the digital dude at Nike SB. You won't find any Sheckler sized backside flips in the TM Contest. Mark's got an industry guy one for you, though.
Skater Profile: Mark Goldman Paul Zitzer takes pen to paper at The Skateboard Mag and takes lips to microphone at the tv contest anyone can skate.
Skater Profile: Paul Zitzer Adam Salo is doing a far better job than me covering Tampa Pro. In my own defense, I do have like six jobs, though. I love them all. Thank you for the nice words about us, Adam.
Skater Profile: Adam Salo Charlie Thomas is a little more advanced than the rest of us old guys. He won in 2009 and again this year.
Skater Profile: Charlie Thomas Justin Brock needs some sauce to watch this Contest. Thanks for putting it in a cup!
Skater Profile: Justin Brock Jason Rothmeyer's post career is in a downward spiral. From 1st in 2007 to 8th the next year and now to 15th, next year he's probably going to be a wastoid pile out there. Nah, Rothmeyer's clean as a whistle and probably skates more than you.
Skater Profile: Jason Rothmeyer Now it's time for the Am Vert Contest. I can't remember who this frontside air is.
Skater Profile: Who Dat? Italo Penarrubia was part of the Brazilian crew. They run deep at Tampa Am Vert.
Skater Profile: Italo Penarrubia Brad McClain had to rent a full set of pads in the Shop to skate the Contest.
Skater Profile: Brad McClain Someone's girlfriend in the Brazilian crew was doing a live webcast from her phone. She said there were 300 people watching. Wow. Top three in Tampa Am Vert: Italo Penarrubia (2nd), Mitch Brusco (1st), and Zac Rose (3rd).
