Gone with the Wind

On Captain Corporate's Coverage Patrol (CCCP), skateboarding's top four mags get logged as we read them. Below is a list of skaters who were in the mags at least once prior to 2007 but have not been seen since.

Here are the more interesting ones.
  • Aaron Perko - where did he go? We had some good times over the years at all the am contests he would go to.
  • Consolidated put Alan Peterson in a Thrasher ad in July 2006 then he never appeared in print again.
  • Aquil Brathwaite might not be in the mags, but he's not gone and we see him ripping at our events all the time.
  • Branen Fitzgerald was just on the cusp of crossing over to more coverage and a career but nothing happened. I last remember him telling me somthing about being on some company that was trying to get him to do the tight pants and band shirt wardrobe makeover.
  • Brenden Lai-Wing Leung with Natrual Koncept. Damn, check that fool's headshot which should explain why he has no skate career.
  • Brian Patch has not been in the mags, but he sure has been in the news. Check ID on those little girls.
  • Carlos Ruiz - wasn't he the big jumper on Blind like the Mexican Josh Kasper?
  • Chris Dobstaff disappeared like the D3's he had on.
  • Colt Bowden - about five years ago I remember getting an email from him saying he'd gone Ommish or something. He had some potential for sure.
  • Danny Morrin - I remember him in the Finals of every contest he skated, but somehow no one really cared.
  • Danny Wainright is quoted as saying, "One ollie saved my career." Or, maybe that was a Thrasher quote? Not after 2006.
  • Evan Mirschell - I first saw him at Tampa Am years ago as a frontside boardsliding baby that blew everyone away by making the cut. Nothing much went on after that.
  • Gino Iannucci - come on Gino, let's see more. At least we got a little bit in the Nike video.
  • Graham Bickerstaff - another good friend of ours from all our travels over the years. I think a little too much booze and partying may have held Graham back.
  • Jake Rupp - off Element and out of the mags.
  • Jason Barr - went the "Dew Tour Pro" route. That will guarantee you no love from the legitimate part of the skateboard industry.
  • Jesse Fritsch - no photos in mags, but there was some kind of mention about him being Tony Hawk's assistant.
  • John Barker aka LJ - I believe this may have been another potential skate career derailed by partying and booze.
  • Josh Maready - made quite a splash at Tampa Am 2001 with a huge gap back lip, but wasn't able to ride away with a skateboard career.
  • Mike Maldonado - last seen airwalking in Transworld, October 2006.
  • Rob Meronek (me!) - of course I got a meron grab sequence in The Skateboard Mag, October 2006. I'm too close to 40 to be starting a skateboard career. It's been downhill since then.
  • Ryan Clements (my parnter!) - also with a photo in The Skateboard Mag, July 2006, doing a back tail. Tail blocks and meron grabs rarely make it into the mags so Clem and I are stuck working for a living.
  • Scott Christiansen - I remember first seeing this dude skate and going, "Who dat???" Not sure what his story is.
  • Steffan Attardo - DJ Wade's brother!
