SPoTlight Productions has announced the creation of the first annual SPoTlight Am Awards. Here's how it will all break down.
By Rob Meronek
Here's how the SPoTlight Am of the Year award is calculated. All Damn Am events follow the same format – timed runs for qualifiers with the top 30 making the cut to the Semi-Finals on Sunday. Once a skater makes the cut to Sunday, they are in the running for the SPoTlight Am of the Year Award. For each skater that makes it to Sunday on at least two separate Damn Am events, their highest scores from the day are averaged together to get their final score. The highest average is SPoTlight Am of the Year.
Below is the calculation of what last year's SPoTlight Am Overall Results For the Year would have been. It would have been Anthony Schultz. Schultz destroyed in the Semi-Finals at Minneapolis Damn Am with a 99 average on Sunday. He also killed it at AmsterDamn Am with an 80.67 average on Sunday. Those two scores resulted in his 90.67 average for the year. Brendan is in last because in Tampa, he made the Semi-Finals but blew it bad – 47.67 average. Then he made the Semi-Finals in Minneapolis and got 76. That wasn’t enough to make it to the Finals so that was his score that counted. Average of the two was 61.83 – his final score for 30th place. So, out of all four Am events for the year, 30 people skated at least two events out of the 90 total that made it to Sunday at least once. David Loy is the only one that made it to Sunday at all four Damn Am events of 2007.
You should see the spreadsheet behind this crazy number crunching output. It's one of the most complicated ones I've done since my Captain Corporate days pushing pencils as a CPA.
