Etnies Goofy vs. Regular Contest
Words and photos by Mike SinclairThis weekend Etnies hosted the first ever Goofy vs. Regular Contest. The event sounded a bit weird to me, but as soon as I saw who was coming and how the contest was scheduled to be run, it was a nice change from all of the other contests. Saturday during prelims I was getting excited to see which stance would actually come out on top. On the Goofy Team it was Eric Koston, P-Rod, Kenny Anderson, Heath Kirchart, and Matt Allen just to name a few. Since I skate goofy foot, or right foot forward, I was pulling for the Goofy Foot Team the entire weekend. Each team had a coach. The Goofy Foot Coach was Dave Swift from The Skateboard Mag. The Regular Foot Team consisted of Leo Romero, Billy Marks, Ryan Sheckler, Johnny Layton, and Bastien Salabanzi. The Regular foot riders were hyped to have Clyde Singleton as their coach. When Sunday came around it was time for the finals. The Goofy Foot Team seemed to be having a lot of trouble and couldn’t pull it together. Koston ripped, but just got off a flight from Australia, so he looked tired. A tired Eric Koston will still get you a perfect backside noseblunt slide and a backside flip over a chest high barrier. The Regular Foot Team won by more than a little, it was a f-ing blow out. Bastien stole the show with bigflip front boards down the 11-stair, cabflip over the barrier, backlip down the 11-stair rail, fakie flip down the 11, and backside 180 kickflip into the quarter pipe. Bastien had the highest score of the weekend with a 98.25 average. Kurtis Colomonico was also on the Regular Foot Team and pulled a switch flip down the 11, 360 flip the 5-flat-5 double set, as well as a kickflip backside noseblunt slide on the flatbar. I can’t explain how much great skating went down during the second heat of the Regular Foot Jam. Leo Romero killed it with a backside tail down the 11-stair rail, frontblunt down the hubba, backside noseblunt slide down the 11-stair, and a kickflip frontside 50-50 down the hubba to name just a few. I can’t remember the last time I saw so much crap go down in 20 minutes. I’m putting my money on the Goofy Foot Team next year just because they got beat so bad. Clyde told the Goofy Foot Team to call a doctor cause, "They just got they feelings hurt something BAD!" Until next time. Check the sketchy photos from Saturday and Sunday’s qualifier and finals.
