How many "end of year" posts have you seen already? I wanted to wait until the last minute to do ours. I still can't believe all this amazing stuff we get to do year after year. There is no more appropriate time to say "thank you skateboarding" than right now. Let's repeat all this and more in 2013:
- One year ago today was my 10 year anniversary of working full time at SPoT.
- We invited our fellow local shop teams for Clash of the Crews in January where Midtown destroyed it.
- We premiered 5Boro's video at The Bricks.
- We had another Valentine's Day All Ages Contest.
- We appreciated old men.
- Our first trip of the year was when we did a charity event with The Berrics.
- We camped out at Mike Mo's house.
- We slashed and sauced on another Booze Cruise.
- Torey Pudwill won Tampa Pro. Mike V coming back was the highlight of the weekend.
- Weezy came to SPoT and not everyone was into it.
- You fell for our April Fools Joke. Even Wikipedia said it was true for a while. Careful what you learn from there.
- We had another Spring Roll All Ages Contest.
- There was another street gap jump in Atlanta.
- Auby Taylor won Damn Am Atlanta.
- For 20 years solid, the SPoT locals exodus to California has been steady. Gib packed up and went this year.
- DJ Wade got married.
- We collected and built boards all year for our charity, Boards for Bros.
- We had another School's Out Jam.
- Even when it wasn't our own event, we still made time to fit in trips like Baltimore to hang out with the Girl team.
- Go Skateboarding Day was nice and low key here at SPoT.
- Go Skateboarding Day in Detroit was crazy, plus experiencing the city was depressing and amazing at the same time.
- Axel won AmsterDamn Am.
- We celebrated two years of The Bricks and SPoT Ybor.
- We went back across the pond for the Tampa Pro of Europe and one of my favorite events of the year: Copenhagen Pro.
- I bandwagoned and made us an iPhone app and an Android app.
- We went and partied S&M style in LA.
- Dylan Witkin won Damn Am Huntington Beach. Is there still going to be Coastal Carnage there in 2013?
- The Death Race at Copenhagen Pro was so fun we did one here at SPoT.
- We went to Torey's house and P-Rod's facility for another episode of SPoT Life.
- We did another charity event with Skateboarder Mag in LA.
- The SPoT Productions crew was spread thin running events on opposite sides of the globe at the same time where Damn Am Shanghai was going on and the Backyard Party in Montreal raged.
- Immediately after that, we were all in Toronto for Take the Cake.
- The following week, it was straight back to Toronto for Damn Am Canada where Matt Berger won it.
- eS is long gone, but the Game of SKATE at SPoT lives on.
- We had another Back to School Bash Contest.
- We pit stopped in Johannesburg while on the way to another Maloof Money Cup in South Africa.
- Frontside Grind Magazine appreciated more old men.
- Anthony Anaya won Damn Am Woodward West.
- We actually spent time in LA not working.
- We premiered Bake and Destroy at The Bricks.
- We tore down the course again for the 19th year in a row.
- Schaefer and Cigar City Brewing brewed Moat Water.
- We built a new street course.
- We had our first Sneaker Soiree at SPoT Ybor.
- We went to Texas for another charity event, Johnny Romano's Texas Skate Jam.
- We had another Harvest Jam All Ages Contest and crowned the All Ages End of Year Awards winners.
- We had the pleasure of doing the Pretty Sweet Premiere in a theater.
- It was another early morning for Black Friday.
- Auby Taylor got Damn Am of the Year after killing it at Huntington Beach and Atlanta.
- Tampa Am was packed and Alec Majerus won it this year.
- We did the Premiere for Parental Advisory at The Bricks.
- We got thug at the annual Ghetto Christmas Party.
- Our staff had a nice holiday gathering at The Bricks.
- Our last charity act of the year was through our own Boards for Bros where we distributed the boards we collected all year to kids that need them.
- And that's another super fun and busy year in the books for Skatepark of Tampa and SPoT Productions. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of it and all the new and old friends we see year after year for high fives, laughs, and good times on the old wood and wheels. Some summaries from prior years:
