Nerdsday Thursday: An Analysis of Judges' Contest Scores

Posted on Thursday, May 30, 2013 by Rob

For this week's Nerdsday Thursday, we're taking a look at all the scores judges have given over the years using our live scoring system called SPoT Scoreboard. We use it on everything from our local all ages contests to our live tv and broadcast events like Damn Am Los Angeles this weekend. I've got a mountain of judges' scoring info, so let's dive in to see who's loose with the points or critical lowballer.

First, we have a list of all judges we've used over the years and their average score given for all skaters they've judged. Looks like "Mr Moul Grab" ranks in first on most generous scores. He's not a judge this weekend so you're out of luck if you want to rely on him for Damn Am Los Angeles.
  1. Alex Moul, 75.81

Average Scores For Scores Above 70

We judge on a scale of 1 to 100, 100 being the best. Lots of skaters that enter contests completely blow it so I made another list that ranked judges by their average of scores given only for skaters that did fairly well. This is for any scores over 70. Interesting how SPoT Locals Robbie Kirkland and Chris Jata become the most generous in points when the skating is good.

When the Skating is Amazing

How about when the skating is amazing? These are the average scores given by judges for scores over 90. Yep, Torey Pudwill comes out on top. He judged a contest for us in Vegas once and with an average of 98 for his scores given out for what he feels is amazing skating, it appears he must have been baked and hyped while judging some shredding going down. Notice any trends in here? I see one. SPoT Productions head judge Jason Rothmeyer is relatively hard to please. Good luck in Damn Am this weekend. If you can't make it, catch it all live on Sunday right here at skateparkoftampa.com.
