Everybody Votes Leo
Posted by Rob, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 9:26 PM
1031, Birdhouse, Brixton, Dekline, Dogtown, ExpeditionOne, Foundation, Toy Machine, and World industries all came through Woodward and made a team video. Cast your vote for the Toy Machine one, I mean your favorite one, I mean, that should be the Toy Machine one, I mean, you know what I mean. The best team cashes in nicely with $5,000 for 1st. You know who else will be at Woodward soon? You! And me, and Porpe, and Clem, and HiDefJoe, and DJ Wade, and Rothmeyer, and more and more. Yep, it's another Damn Am at Woodward West. Hit me up for registration (rob@skateparkoftampa.com) for this last chance of the year to qualify for Tampa Am.

Class Still in Session

Best Trick is always a crazy trick feeding frenzy of chaos. I stopped trying to shoot photos of those years ago. Filming it is a little easier, but not by much. What do you think of this method the high school students at Woodward U used with a stationary camera and just clipping out the makes? I think I like it this way. Maybe just a smoother transition between clips or something? I don't know, but this is probably as good as you can make that madness look: Independent Best Trick at Damn Am Woodward.
Power's Out, Vert Baby Dance Party, and Gambling Antics

Sure, the skateboarding was great, but you'll only get a small dose of that in my chill time videos I make with my phone. The power went out in the middle of the Contest at Woodward, so we packed it up and headed over to dinner and an extra weird bar in the next town over. Actually, it wasn't weird to us. It was very Florida. The rest of the weekend was a lot of dice rolling and Halloween dressed up as DJ Wade: Damn Am at Woodward: Power's Out, Vert Baby Dance Party, and Gambling Antics.

Here's how Kyle Walker won Damn Am at Woodward this year. That frontside boardslide to frontside hurricane to forward is so amazing. In case you forgot, he also won it last year.
Kyle now joins all the other top two placers in the other Damn Ams of the year. That list is here: Tampa Am 2011: Already in the Cut.
The Fifth Damn Am of the Year is a Wrap

Here's a small sample of the ripping skating that went down on Sunday at the Damn Am Finals.
Get full results from the weekend here.
Top 12 from this Damn Am get their spot saved in Tampa Am.
Top two go directly to the Semi-Finals in Tampa bypassing 200+ people that have to Qualify.
Tampa Am will be broadcast live on the web, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at noon Eastern time. The day before that, Nike SB will have the worldwide premiere of The SB Chronicles with the host party being right here in our crusty skateboard hut hosted by Ryan Clements and Brian Schaefer. If you're not in Tampa, join us in front of the webcam and we'll tune into your local party over the wires. You can't do that on television. Remember that Nickelodeon show?
Skate School

Woodward has a high school. Yep, a skateboarding high school. Everyone 30+ just had the same collective thought: "Where was this when I was growing up?" One of the courses is filming and editing. This weekend while the Damn Am came through, the students were doing their homework. Check out the first couple edits they have from Friday and Saturday's Qualifiers:
100% Winners
Posted by Rob, Sunday, October 23, 2011 8:06 PM
99% of the people in this Contest didn't get 1st place.
There was some kind of protest because everyone feels they deserved to win even though they may have not earned it or performed that way.
So, everyone's in 1st. If you're reading this, you're in 1st, too, so pat yourself on the back!
What you did doesn't matter and that's the way everything in life should be. Peace and love, bro, we are all winners. OMG! JK! LOL! Lighten up ya'll.
Kyle Walker and Trevor Colden were tied for 1st at the end of the three runs you get in the Finals.
Going to the second runs means Kyle takes it. They'll both be directly in the Semi-Finals
in Tampa Am in December, though. They join the rest of the top two from all the
Damn Am Contests we had this year: Atlanta, China, Canada, and Amsterdam. What a year of ripping skating.
Here's a small sample of how Kyle Walker won it today. It's not just a front 'cane. Click through to see the sequence.
Other results:
- Independent Best Trick
- Zumiez Destroyer Award: Anthony Estrada
