All week long I've been riding the subway here wondering how they know if you paid or not. I just found out. Every now and then, a cop comes on the train and asks everyone for their ticket, after which I got a citation. There are signs everywhere saying the fine is $250 for riding without a ticket. Crap. Check out the line - first 600 people get in.
