This weekend, Allen Russell, John Paul Grebe, Ryan Rapp, and I went to another one of those city skate parks run like a baseball field except with too much supervision, which I guess makes it a rollerskating rink…

I get emailed all the time with questions like "how do I kickflip." I send pretty much the same resposne to people so I thought I'd go ahead and make a short article of it. I’ve seen a lot of tips out there on how to learn tricks, but I’ve never seen anyone mention a method that I’ve used since the early days of my skating.

I forgot to mention that somehow we ended up hanging out with the infamous Baby Schitzo last night. Since he didn’t
have anywhere to stay, we let him crash on our floor. Waking up to Baby Schitzo in our room was definitely an experience in itself.

Everyone in the industry complains about Surf Expo. I’m not exactly sure what the reasons are for
the complaints. The show seems to get more and more fun as the years pass by.

As the sun rose, so did I. Barry and I thought that it would be a great idea to head over to the
show before it opened and ride the mini-ramp. We had a full-on session at about 8:30am. Thanks to the official
ASR badge with my name on it, the Staff Pro security guards were forced to sit and watch us skate. That badge is gold.

I think that after several years of going to trade shows, you become a bit jaded on the whole scene.
It’s not like I don’t like going, because I do, but maybe I’ve just been so wrapped up with the day in/day out
of operating Skatepark that I didn’t really want to leave. But my attitude changed upon arriving in San Diego.

Although I didn’t go to bed until late, I woke up early since my body was still on “Florida time.” It gets light out really early on the west coast and the construction starts at sunrise. There were buildings being raised on three sides of our hotel, so sleeping past sun-up was out of the question.

Today sucked for me. I paid the price for partying last night. I woke up in a chair that doesn't even recline at my friend Jen's house still feeling the evil alcohol from the night before. All I had the energy to do was go to the World's Best Shop Owner contest held at the Deluxe offices...

I just wached the sickest best trick contest I've seen in a while. Ten grand was on the line for the winner. From where I was standing, you can't really tell there's a 12 foot deck on that bank to bank. Some damn good moves thrown down included...

Going by the Weekly Poll about how old you are, most of you out there seem to be between 13 and 18. Like 80 years ago when I was that young, I had no idea about the business side of skateboarding, including the crazy trade shows that went down in California every year.

The Skatepark of Tampa out-of-town trips usually consist of some type of work.
When we go to San Diego, it’s for the ASR Trade Show. This time it was different...we
didn’t have any work to do! That’s right. With the exception of having to wake
up at 4:15 in the morning to make my flight to Vancouver at 6:30am, it was basically
a vacation.

When pro BMXer, Sean Albright, first started working at Skatepark of Tampa,
the existing staff had questions about some riders that came to the Park
and would ask, "Hey Sean, you know that one kid that rides a bike that..."
Sean would reply, "You know, I don’t personally know every kid that
comes here that rides a bike." And the conversation would continue,
"Oh, he’s not one of your buddies?" "No, he’s not my buddy,"
Sean would say. But whether he liked it or not, we still insisted
that every BMXer was Sean’s "buddy." It got so bad that we even fabricated
a non-existent group that we aptly titled the ‘BMX Buddy Network.’ Check this out, because I really did write about Roots Jam…

Sean Albright and myself are on the same schedule. We go to bed early and wake up early for skate missions. There’s only one thing unique about the arrangement: Sean rides a bike. Regardless, it still works out very well. A few weeks back, we had an early morning session at the newly constructed Wachula Skate Park. That’s right. Wachula.

After his performance at the Skatepark of Tampa 10-Year Anniversary Party, any
witness would agree that Andrew W.K. puts on one entertaining show.
Rob Meronek and Andrew W.K.-mark, Afro-Jim, didn’t see enough of Andrew at the Party.
They got their fix by heading over to Orlando a couple of weeks ago to check
him out at The Social. Check out Afro-Jim’s account of the evening.

Life is a constant struggle. One day things seem to be looking up and you appreciate that you're lucky enough to be alive. The next day I'm losing my $h!t and wondering, "What happened?"

We’ve all done it, but we have no idea how to deal with it. Do we use a hot pack or ice?
Should we wrap it with an elastic bandage? What if it looks like there’s a golf ball
in my ankle? Or much worse, a grapefruit? Confused? Take a minute and read up on how to
get back on your board as soon as possible.

How many of you have found yourself bailing a trick in a contest or session that you have landed 1000 times in the past? Is it the stubbornness of youth, the persistence of the skateboarder’s obsession to pull a trick, or is it something much simpler?
